Okay, this is getting on my tits.

Finland Frets as Russia Launches Military Drills on Its Doorstep

Bull. Shit. Russia is arranging military drills all the time, nobody really bats an eyelid at stuff like that. Nobody is fretting, although sure, there were a few raised eyebrows at the comments of Putin's former economic advisor who mediawhored by saying Putin's going to take over Baltics and Finland and whatever. The only thing "palpable" here are these articles, which seem to describe a totally different country to where I'm living in.

This is rolled gold bat guano. Story of the year for the tinfoil hat brigade. David Icke is right now doing a victory lap around Loch Ness with his pseudo-druidical cassock over his head.

@Kay aha, now it all makes sense. I see no reason not to believe all of that.

Lego the Building Blocks of Satan!

Friendly fellows have been replaced by dark monsters. These toys can have a negative effect on children. They can destroy their souls and lead them to the dark side.

The Supreme Court decided that limits on campaign donations is unconstitutional and since this hasn't been mentioned yet, I thought I'd mention. I suppose this is more News Serious, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet (granted I've been absent from twitter, so there could be all sorts of talk there). I think we can all agree that the Supreme Court might as well be owned by the super rich. (Not that this is completely new to us, but you know.) Of course, I only know this because I've started listening to NPR when I'm driving, and I happened to catch a segment on that.

This is the informus thread, I like that subhead better then the title, I do sometimes worry about posting things which could be described a niche, but I guess that is what makes them newstrange, I also like the Idea of a little journalist integrity around here.

in the 'popular' media, we were inundated with stories about North Koreans being forced to adopt the haircut of their supreme leader, but not so much when Saudi Arabia Passes New Law That Declares Atheists "Terrorists", an infinitely more newsworthy event.

I am some times unsuccessful at restraining myself from taking pot shots at people, for posting things I feel are unworthy, I hope no-one takes these failures of my restraint personally. On the other side, keep up the good work of informing us Trini.

Harun Yahya : The Islamic Sex Cult Supporting Turkey’s Prime Minister

Followers of Harun Yahya wear drag make-up and practice a “sexed-up, Disney version of Islam” that helps promote conservative Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s vision of a modern, Muslim Turkey. Step inside this surreal world where religious piety meets psychedelic softcore porn, led by the world’s foremost Islamic creationist.

Okay, the plot sickens. Some of you may've seen news lately about Finnish people being very worried about Russia etc., such as the one I commented on. The site that is based on, Finnbay, was a bit weird - I had never seen nor heard about it before those fear mongering articles, and I had a bit on the "what's this then" vibe about it.

Our Russian ambassador warned on Twitter that it's a fake site of some sort, the site registration is obfuscated, it's registered as a think thank, it doesn't provide the editor-in-chief information that's required under Finnish law, and it's misrepresenting it at least in regard of being the official representative of Italy's ANSA in Finland.

Most of their news pieces are kind of normal, but the ones that are about Russia are just off. They are weirdly sensationalist, and trying to create a mood like people in here were somehow massively nervous or in panic about Russia. They have also misquoted the head of Finland's armed forces in a way that sounds like they didn't know what's going on over the border and that the armed forces can't comment about stuff because of political issues.

So, if you read a news piece about Finland being super worried about something that happens in Russia, please check the original source. If it's Finnbay, the article is bullshit.

Here's some information about the previous in English:

Finnbay’s English-language news reporting under scrutiny

Okay interesting, apparently they've been spamming Reddit, FB and some expat groups hard enough to get banned, and they've caused a lot of trouble for a blogger who used to contribute to them. Check the conversation here:

Russian infowar in Finland? The source of all the "Finland is vewwy vewwy nervous about Russia" articles in international media is a website called Finnbay with an obfuscated ownership and possible ties to Russia.

But does Pono come with Monster Cables?

"Pono is the latest in a long line of attempts to give people "high-quality" recorded audio. It will be able to play music that has been digitised in 24-bit audio sampled at 192 kilohertz (kHz), rather than the 16-bit 44.1kHz audio that CDs use. If you remember the ill-fated DVD-audio and SACD discs of a decade ago, you'll know this song already. Barely anyone pays for such high-quality digital audio, because they can't hear the difference from the medium-quality variety.

Pono: only a man pays for music quality that he can't hear

Okay, about that Finnbay-thing, a lot has been going on in there and my Occam's Razor here is that in the end this is one guy Dunning-Krugering together a media site, with clues few and far in between. They found the dude who seems to be the only one actually working there, he's living in a student dorm and as a show of excellent media and PR skills his response to media was "Go away or I'll call the cops!"

Journalists and bloggers have come out telling that Finnbay had contacted them earlier to do some free volunteer reporting for the site, and apparently the guy who runs it has stiffed one guy whom he hired to scrape information from other sites for copy-paste publishing. His other practices aren't exactly professional either.

Back to Basics: Let's Talk Finnbay (Again)
