From this interview with Archer creator Adam Reed:
They're doing a whole country album to go with the new Archer season. This will feature a C&W cover of 'Danger Zone' with Kenny Loggins.

One of the many things I love about Archer is how anachronistic the world is. Lots of fun to be had, there. Sploosh indeed...

Caught a sneak preview of the new HBO series LOOKING the other night. For those not in the know, it's a comedy/drama series about three gay men looking for love and relationships in contemporary San Francisco.

On the plus-side, there are a few shout-outs to the non-touristy parts of S.F. such as El Rio and Doc's Clock. One of the best jokes occurs in the first few minutes of the first episode, when a cruising attempt gets interrupted by a cell phone call. The drama's treated as verite with such moments as the bartender character complaining about obnoxious techies. On the other hand, even after passing through the first episode setup blues, there's no sense that the series is ready to step out beyond the "nice-looking lead about to screw up yet another date" gag. In short, LOOKING is currently in the AGENTS OF SHIELD category of neither utterly awful nor utterly brilliant, just potentially interesting.

Archer was good and I'm glad that Adam Reed is seeking to mix up the formula because I was fairly bored with season 4 and thought that the premise and characters had run their course and hoped that the fifth season would see a conclusion to the show. However, the change of setting and focus allows for interesting changes in the dynamics between the characters, as well as giving the writing team a bit of a chance to build more on the fun world that they've sort of stitched together via one off jokes and banter between the characters. My hopes for Adam Reed to move on to something else remain, only because I love Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo a significantly larger amount than I do Archer, if only because Archer is way more accessible and feels a bit more shallow than his Adult Swim work. I understand staying with a project which is overwhelmingly popular and successful is basically hitting the jackpot and I will continue watching, but I expect that Archer will wear out its welcome before it's laid to rest.

That being said: The episode felt pretty sparse(with a sub 20 minute run time) and a fair chunk of it was eaten up by the too long montage/trailer for the rest of the season. The trailer/montage looked great but it kind of spoiled the whole season(Lana wearing the same outfit as Malory did when her water breaks is not something you give away, because while awesome, you've killed a potentially amazing punchline). I expect this episode short run time and lack of content was just an opening to a lot of expensive animation and lots of great comedy writing.

Just started on last year's Orphan Black, which Cat Vincent recommended a year ago.

I'll second that right now. A very nice bit of WHAT HATH SCIENCE WROOOOOUUUUGHT! present day scifi, if not quite up there with Black Mirror or Utopia. Also features an absolutely stunning performance by Tatiana Maslany as the lead, having a million different types of nervous breakdowns and berserker buttons. It gets complicated.

I liked the title Orphan Black got from the Something Awful forums:

Orphan Black: Canadian actress schools entire industry. Sexually.

Count me among the people successfully suspension-of-disbelief'd by Sherlock. Watched the first and third episode of this season, and, well, I was supremely entertained. Of course, this is from only having seen a couple of the earlier Sherlock episodes, so could be it starts to grate eventually.

I suspect said lack of over-familiarity may be part of the reason why I loved the hell out of
Sherlock's inner-palace reasoning upon being shot.

It's ridiculous, but it's handled in a way that grabbed me.

My binge with Person of Interest has got me nearly to the end of season 2. It's one of those shows where I've found myself actually coming to care about the main characters in it. Even if some of the numbers episodes aren't that good, the continuing themes keep me going - dirty cops, the machine, the mob etc. Good stuff.

@flecky - Oh mate, it gets really good from then on! From the last 2 eps of S2 to date, there has not been a single bad episode, and most of them have been genuinely superb. Avoid spoilers!

Possibly super spoilery trailer for Hannibal Season 2 Can. Not. Wait. Season 1 was one of the most pleasant surprises on TV last year.

Sleepy Hollow: Fall 2014 is a really, really long ways away.

I've enjoyed all 9 episodes of Sherlock so far. As long as they keep making more I'll keep watching.

Currently working through season 3 of Grimm. It's a show that's never brilliant but is always smart. The fun tone and slow world-building is what I've been looking for from series like Arrow that I keep dropping after several episodes, as it becomes apparent they're not going to manage it.

Just watched the last new Sherlock and hmh, I feel The Moff is starting to lose me. Not with a bang but with a long drawn out meeeeeh. I don't know, I just feel that each episode is yet another main character introduction for the nth time.

@Cat: I gotta agree with you - it's been good. I got about 2 episodes left, then I think I'm up to date with it.

I fell asleep in the latest episode of Helix, but I'll probably give that a look at some point. It's...I dunno.

New Hannibal! - I really need to finish off Season One.

    Ten-Four-Roger-Alpha - that's my boob-tube viewing sit-rep for now. OVER.

@flecky - Not if you're on Season 2. S3 is about half-way through, but that would require Illicit Means to access.
    (Totally worth it, of course.)

I'm on to Episode 13, Season 3. Illicit viewing is the only thieving I do nowadays, and I can live with that :)

I've still got new Justified to watch, and I'm going to give HBO's True Detective a shot. I watched the first episode of Bitten, but it really seemed like the sort-of thing I wouldn't want to get into nowadays.
