I'm glad to see the love for True Detective. Cohle is my favourite character on the box at the moment.

True Detective is obviously amazing. I have just started reading The King in Yellow because of this show (you can download it and read it for legalfree here if anyone is interested) and... that is some messed up shit. I'm really into it.

I'm enjoying the new House of Cards but-
maybe it's just because the only thing I remembered from the original British version of the show was seeing the Zoe character be thrown from the top of the House of Commons. Consequently I've been waiting for her to die for an entire season, so losing her in a surprise twist in s2e01 actually really worked for me. I'm also enjoying the depiction of the Underwood's marriage - at this point it is the most intriguing character in the show.

The most important news in modern television is here: the TV version of John Constantine is going to be a sodding Londoner. (Though they cast a Welshman.)

Constantine centers on master of the occult John Constantine, who struggles with his faith as he is haunted by the sins of his past and is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.

John is described as a working-class Londoner with deadpan humor who is a mysterious conman and occult detective haunted by the recent loss of a young girl's soul. No stranger to the dark underworld that exists parallel to our own, Constantine has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. He's taught himself spells, rituals, curses and conjuring, but the one person he most wishes to see -- his mother, who died giving birth to him -- remains out of reach, at least so far. When Liv, the daughter of a late friend, is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her and the two form an alliance.

That sounds an awful lot like they're using pretty much the whole of Delano's origin, Newcastle and Astra and all. (Ravenscar? Oh, I hope so...) All we need now is the right pronunciation and a packet of Silk Cut.

Oh yeah, and Hannibal's back Sunday night.

But I was hoping for Keanu Reeves to come back...

    From executive producer David Goyer

@D.J. Is that good or bad?

Well, as a writer, he's just not very good. Hopefully he won't be too involved in that capacity, but the writer that they did hire seems pretty uninspired. He worked on the first couple seasons of Dexter, which is okay, but other than that just a bunch of run-of-the-mill procedurals, and I don't think any of us want Constantine to be one of those.

Goyer was also the co-writer of Dark City, let us not forget... and writer/producer of the mad-as-fuck Da Vinci's Demons, which may bode well. Cerone's stint on Dexter was the best run the show had, so we can hope. I hope they bring some other talent to the writer's room - Joe Ahearne (Ultraviolet, Strange, Apparitions) springs to mind.

Oh - and I was wrong, Hannibal's back Friday night, the 28th.
  4.  (11240.10)
Also good news: writer Justin Monjo is scripting a Farscape sequel movie... and an adaptation of George C. Chesboro's 'Beasts Of Valhalla', which they're hoping to have star Peter Dinklage - which would be the role of his lifetime (a criminology professor & PI who raised his tuition by doing circus acrobatics and parlayed those skills into a karate black belt). The books are a lot of fun - noirish with SF & horror elements - and it's a franchise that could go for years.

Because Syfy doesn't want anyone to have anything nice, this'll be the last season of the US Being Human. :(

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show just keeps getting weirder and more wonderful with every episode of the second season.

I'm gagging for something to watch, and I just found out that I got new Person of Interest to do.

I know it's not everyone's favorite, but I thought The Walking Dead was quite good this week. Tense, like.

Have they made a statement as to why? Not that I've been happy with this season, but it has been a well-done series, and seems to have a respectably-sized viewership.

Shame this week's Person was a pure Number Of The Week (though a possible new Big Bad is always fun) - though I give it points for Shaw saying "There's no dead in Team". Next week is a mythology ep.

@MrMonk: I think it's just standard 'ratings vs. expense' nonsense. Though apparently there's also been a pretty big executive shakeup at the network recently.

Being, frankly, spoiled by my current turgid love affair with TD, and with the slow starter post-Olympics episode I was a little trepidatious before watching the latest Person Of Interest. Woo, RAM is right. When the show's firing on all cylinders it goes like a rocket! Nolan & the team are masters of the relevant Flashback, I'm sorry I ever doubted them. Wow.

I would've really liked the ending of True Detective if they didn't lift the tail end of the final conversation from an issue of Top 10.

But as it happens, they lifted the conversation from an issue of Top 10 and even made it less clever the conversation and its context initially were in Top 10.

@InvincibleM: Not having read TT (but having an extensive background in mysticism) I thought it was a pretty good humanist slant of Taoism. (Could be worse - The AV Club is full of whiny atheists insisting Rust found Jesus...)

Count me as satisfied by the ending, but also quietly imagining that once Rust & Marty are recovered they get a visit from King Mob.

I'm kinda gutted True Detective has finished. That was some evil at work in the last episode. *smiles* - Great! I like a bit of evil.
