HAH Yes! return of the good-things-that-happened-today-gave-me-a-reason-to-smile-and/or-hope-that-it's-okay-to-smile-even-if-it's-just-an-absurd-existence-before-the-universal-redshift-goes-bang-and-collapses-back-on-us-in-tremendous-blueshift-that-we'll-never-see-because-the-earth-will-have-been-swallowed-by-the-sun's-supernova-and-anyway-we-individuals-would-have-been-worm-food-millenia-before-that.

Warren used to hate this thread. Gave us such a thrill to give the old bastard a reason to get up in the morning. We all do our part.

Well. What have you got? What gave you a smile? What worked out? What good news did you get? Share your hugging warm happiness.

I thought about art a lot today. Performance and interactivity and living in a present, created reality. I talked a little bit about it with another artist and he shared what he was thinking. There are artsy problems to solve. The sort of thing I live for.

Went to a friend's fortieth birthday drinks last night, and to my grandfather's eighty ninth birthday dinner today. Saw family I hadn't seen for well over a decade which was really nice.

Back at work tomorrow, not so good at all, but a lot of the stress has lifted so I'm not feeling too bad about it. Remains to be seen how long that lasts...

Currently sitting in a really swanky hotel room in Canberra with three days of exploring my national capital ahead of me (never underestimate the power of bargain online booking sites). Even better, it's a pleasant 25 degrees today while back home in Perth they're suffering through 39.

My roommate and I have kittens! Two awesome little rescue kittens who can camouflage into any dark substance now lurk in my home!

Left the house, not once, but TWICE IN ONE WEEK (shooting for a third time on Friday)!! WOOOO!!!

My laptop is back and it's totally fixed and I can totally get back to work again!
Tomorrow I have two classes which I will spend gleefully downloading albums from other people's best-of lists. And sending in applications for one million jobs and awards. I wasn't crazy about moving back to Toronto when this semester is over, but Queen Street Mental Health needs a librarian (and is willing to pay for it)....

Did I buy a nice camera that I can't really afford? Yes. Yes I did.

Busy but very happy, 9-5 in my usual game art gig, and two freelance gigs, one doing characters/concepts for a TV show pitch the other working on a show for disney junior, started the latter today.

Dear friends. Good for what ails you, I tell you.

My first gadget purchase of the not-hand-to-mouth year was a small Bluetooth keyboard & touchpad, which is an incredible improvement to film/TV watching comfort in Adventure Girl's apartment. The media computer and the screen are in opposite ends of the room, and from the computer you can't see the screen unless you go and turn it around, which makes for rather annoying film/TV evenings when you need to dash up and out to adjust any little thing or to just pause the video for a bit. It's the small thingsā€¦ :)

During a 2 week working stay on a cattle farm I have:

Taught myself to weld properly, sustaining only minor burns
Sorted out some years' worth of major shit with a close relative, by email
Rebuilt a cattle feed cart from a pile of rust, in a day
Rebuilt my box trailer from a ferrous brown lace doily, in a few days
Recorded a decent live set while getting drunk on a watertower
Taught myself to use Adobe Premiere
    Finished reading The Wonderbook
    Learned how to use Scrivener
Made a decent start on a novel
Taken a walk in the cloud forest on Gloucester Tops
Been shopping in Taree (75km away) 3 times and got some great, comfy work boots for tres cheap
Took some pretty good video and stills
Had loads of fun with my kids in the pool, running around the yard, and eating icecream on a lookout while listening to the wind singing in a radio tower

I've got a day to bum around tomorrow and there's still the garlic growers' fair to attend on Saturday!

Holy shit, you can really do a lot if you're sane! This is so cool!

After some pretty crap ones, I ran an OK group at the local drug treatment agency; if nothing, I'm pretty consistent at this stuff. It's good to get confused with the staff, and if I can help someone. then good.

My higher-power, vortex-entity, space-chimp, darkside-god, warpsmith-infused step-two is coming along; slowly-but-surely. "A restoration to sanity" - good luck with that, mate. I now have four service positions at the meetings around here. I'm a man of my word, me!

I escaped a place of being down yesterday morning by doing impressions of Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Marlon Brando etc. The word "fuck" was prolific.

    @Kay: Good on you, lad!

Abstract allusions to forward progress appearing in negative space. Or I'm delirious and just feeling good about things...
I can't really read Japanese, not *really*, but I'm happy with how much I can make out these days.
Got in some art, got a reprieve for the weekend, got some thinking done on a large thing and on a small thing.
    Creeping forward.

Got over myself and went to pick up free food from a local charity. BBQ ribs, rice, bread, salad. Yay!

Performed my first full set on Wednesday as guest speaker at York's Speakers Corner. Got this lovely comment from one of the organisers, Andy Humphrey.

"...massive, massive thanks to Steve Toase for one of the most spellbinding guest performances I can remember!"

Also looks like I've got a set at a little festival in August organised by one of my favourite bands. All good stuff!

Did not accomplish everything, but got a couple big things done.

Now root beer float and RWBY season 1.

@dorkmuffin... there's always an excuse to buy a camera you can't really afford. That's what I keep telling myself.

I've been running. Not something that comes naturally. But if I can keep it up, should help a lot.
My car now doesn't leak, so doesn't need to go to the scrapyard.

@JP Carpenter, this excuse: friend was selling it and would sell it via payment plan, and he gave me a STUPID good deal with the lenses. Eventually I'll need to replace the shutter.

brilliant if you got a good deal with the lenses, they'll live through several shutters/camera bodies...

*(unless you let them mould in a shed like muppetface here...)
