57 wasn't too bad. Several potential fluid transfer inconsistencies though but I'll save going into them until you all have read it.

I know you said you wouldn't, but would you be willing to go into it? I really have no motivation to read it, so maybe you can convince me.

    @Dannykat

I'm pretty sure nothing I would say will convince you to read it as it is, more or less, a run of the mill Crossed story with nothing we haven't seen a dozen times. But it is only the first part and neither Lorre nor Amanda are in it so I am saving any kind of judgement until more issues are out.

It's basically an issue length introduction to what seem to be the three main characters with a dash of world building, but do we really need that again? Especially at issue 57 where, I'd assume, the people buying it are already well versed in the Crossed world.

I guess the following will be SPOILERS if you haven't read it yet, but only in that regard. Nothing new is introduced that would be spoiled by reading on.

Right off, some guy gets snared by a bola weighted with decapitated Crossed heads by a pack of Crossed which are chasing him. He turns fairly quickly. Then we get to two women (I forget their names) hiding from the pack in a large diameter culvert. They are found by a Crossed guy and one of the women shoves a pipe or something (she conveniently finds by blindly reaching into the water) into his neck and blood splurts out directly at her and she is maybe a foot away from him. She should have caught some of that blood in the face being so close to him, but didn't. The water in the culvert (depending on the panel, it varies to just covering their shoes to coming up to their knees or thighs) has been contaminated with Crossed blood and is splashing all over as they run through the culvert. They escape because some unseen benefactor sniper is picking off any Crossed that get in their way.

There is a flashback sequence in all of that back to their C-Day. One of the woman has a daughter who gets turned somehow, carves out her little brother's eyes and goes after her mom. Some guy runs in and brains the girl with an ax resulting in him being literally covered with her blood and he doesn't turn nor any of the people in very close proximity.

Back to real time and chasing and sniping Crossed who are close enough to the women to practically grab them. Again, blood spraying all about but it miraculously misses both women. The sniper directs them to a bridge and one of the women gets a Crossed thrown knife in the leg and doesn't turn. And I have a hard time believing at this point that any Crossed thrown projectile is free of Crossed goo.

The bridge collapses while the women and Crossed are on it, the women are hanging on the edge the embankment while the Crossed fall to their deaths below, save one who is hanging onto the back of one of the woman's pants before the other woman stomps him in the head and he falls to his death. it was quick but how he grabbed her, you'd think she would have been scratched, at the very least. Then the Crossed that fell from the bridge burst into flames and Jesus shows up.

I think the point of this one is hipster sniper Jesus is hunting the Crossed, setting traps and shit to kill them.

Apologies if that all sounds a bit nitpicky.

    @Haggy

Thank you for that, and it wasn't nitpicky at all in my opinion. The people avoiding infection, despite coming into contact with Crossed blood, might seem minor but it gives me an indicator that this author may not have bothered -- or cared -- to create a story consistent with this universe. However, I do hope I'm wrong with that assessment. We'll see when the next issues rolls around.

I guess that the artist could be at fault, but without a script (to see the author's intent) we may never know who fell asleep when it came to the little details.

I was going to mention that it could be down to the artist drawing it like that, so thank you AlexGB. Still, the knife bit is on the writer.

Just wanted to let you know that on the alternatehistory.com site one of the posters has written a Crossed timeline. It's nine pages, and on page 8 an adaptation of sorts of Thin Red Line has started. It has scenes from the arc but also "deleted scenes" that the poster has come up with, scenes that one can imagine took place off-screen during the storyline. One such scene involves Gordon Brown being told of a large infected Irish military force heading north towards Northern Ireland, whose security forces are already stretched to the breaking point trying to control the local outbreaks.

You can find it here, but you have to be a member of the site in order to access it: http://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=286731

It appears that I can't see it without an account. Would you say this timeline is worth making an account for, Babu Dhakal? I get a bit nervous when signing up on something, but if you vouch for it...

You're welcome Haggy. Yes Dannykat, it's a good site. As the name implies it's focused on alternate history (which Crossed arguably also is), but there's also plenty of discussion about other fictional universes (Star Wars, A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, Warhammer 40,000 etc.) and also political chat, though that one is pretty stringently moderated, word of warning there. But otherwise it's pretty easy to be there so long as you behave.

Yeah, I think it's worth a look. Have some time though as it is dense. I had to stop at page 4 last night due to it being 2 in the morning but am looking forward to getting back to it after work.

It took a few hours for my account to be activated. In fact, I got into the locked threads a few hours after signing up but didn't get an official activation e-mail until this morning so it may be worth checking periodically.

    @111111

I haven't run into any pics yet in the Crossed Timeline thread. There is a WYWH thread too that I am keep to crack.

I'll post the first bit of the Crossed Timeline thread starter but more than that, feels kind of weird. And it is based on the comics, not a timeline of what goes on in the comics, at least so far. The discussion between entries can be interesting as that is mostly based on the comics. I was a little confused when first reading the below, thinking it was some story I somehow missed somewhere.

"DISCLAIMER : 18 +. If you are easily offended, disgusted or have heart problems you should probably avoid this.

Having read the "Crossed" comics i decided it would be an interesting idea for a TL, if you havnt read or heard of them, i suggested typing "crossed comics" into google images if you can stomach it.

The premise is that there is a sudden, inexplicable outbreak of a highly contagious virus worldwide that affects seemingly every city in every country all at once, causing the downfall of humanity in mere hours or a couple of days at most. This virus not only causes the infected to attack and eat victims, but to act out their most evil, hideous thoughts as well using whatever weapons they can find.

This is going to be an open TL so anyone can contribute with their own stories, news articles, blogs, diaries and ideas.

    10 Downing Street, 9:10 AM 3 July 2012 ( C - DAY)

David Cameron was in a meeting with his Foreign Secretary William Hague, as the July sun beat through the window's of the PM's office.

"Well according to our people on the ground, we can say with relative certainty that General Manaf Tlass has defected from the Assad regime with the help of French intelligence. He's on his way to Paris now via Turkey." Hague said skimming over a Foreign Office report.

"So its a pretty big blow for that bloody madman then. How many more defections can the Syrian regime take ?" Cameron asked. Before he could answer the door suddenly burst open. National Security Adviser Nigel Darroch with a grim, ghostly look on his face.

"Nigel, what is it ?" Cameron snapped, angered at the sudden interruption until he saw the expression on Darroch's face.

"Prime Minister, we have a situation developing. There seems to be some kind of mass civil unrest breaking out in parts of London, Manchester and Bristol. Not much in the way of details yet but police are reporting heavy casualties and the head of the Met has requested you take his call urgently. He's on line two now." Darroch said without taking a breath the whole time.

    Cameron picked up the phone.

    "Yes, Commissioner Howe ?"

"Hahahaha i'm coming for you David, gonna chop your dick off and feed it to the K9 unit !!!!"....

Here is another peek coutesy of the Crossed Timeline Thread:

    HM GOVERNMENT
    C O N F I D E N T I A L

To : Any mid - senior level official(s)still reading these updates

    From : GCHQ

RE : Urgent #3 update on developing outbreak

Situation continuing to escalate a rapid rate, GCHQ suffered a minor internal outbreak but was contained. Lockdown procedures now in effect.

    Senior Civil Service
The Prime Minister has been evacuated from London. En route to secure location at this moment. The Foreign Secretary is accompanying him. Location of Home Secretary, Health Secretary, Defence Secretary, Education Secretary, Justice Secretary still unknown. Transport Secretary last seen at Heathrow Airport approx ten (10) minutes ago. No further info. Deputy Prime Minister's helicopter crashed in the Thames. Rescue efforts impossible due to civil unrest in the area. All on board presumed dead.

    Cities

Violent incidents reported in every major town and city in the United Kingdom. Most of London "overrun" with "Crossed". Massive casualties possibly numbering in the high hundreds of thousands. No way to verify casualty numbers at this stage.
Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Belfast, Portsmouth, Plymouth, York, Hull, Newcastle, Cardiff, Bristol also reporting huge casualties and structural damage.

    Essential Services
The NHS has effectively collapsed. Most hospitals full to capacity and many have been overrun with infected individuals. Ambulance response has dried up. Many ambulance crews attacked and killed responding to incidents. Similar situation reported with regional fire brigades. Police units are still operating at the local level in some areas, but casualties and desertions are putting enormous strain on all police forces.

    Armed Forces
Situation with the Armed Forces is confused. Communications are patchy and in disarray. Some army units are operating in London and are attempting to reach Buckingham Palace, but sustaining heavy casualties. Alarming rate of desertions in some units. Soldiers worried about families. Warminster Garrison reported overrun. Salisbury overrun. Devenport Naval Base overrun. RAF Brize Norton overrun. RAF Leuchers overrun. No information on the other bases as of yet. Only known operational army base in south east is Colchester.

    Power, Communications and Infrastructure
Power grid still operational for the moment, but mass absenteeism will bring it down soon in some areas if situation does not stabilise. Landlines are jammed for the most part. Public trying to call loved ones or 999. Internet still working but patchy. Mobile networks starting to fail. May go down completely within the next few hours.

    Economy
    All trading suspended.

    Transport
BAA has grounded all flights within the UK and between the UK and other countries until further notice. RAF ordered to shoot down any aircraft in violation of this rule. Public transport has not been officially shut down, though most bus, train and taxi services have stopped operating due to the violence. Situation on motorways said to be "chaotic". Motorways leading out of the cities are in a state of immovable gridlock. Panicked motorists causing multiple accidents. Very little ambulance or fire brigade turn out of accidents.

    Royal Family
Situation with Her Majesty unclear. Buckingham Palace overrun, no info on H.M. location. Possibly dead, though a helicopter did take off from the palace. No way to contact pilots. Unknown if she was on board. Cannot contact Balmoral or Windsor. Prince Harry and Prince of Wales missing, possibly en route to Balmoral, no confirmation. Prince Andrew currently aboard HMS Vanguard en route to the Falkland Islands. Prince William and Kate Middleton feared dead, but again, no confirmation.

    Summary
Situation deteriorating more rapidly than first thought. No contact with cabinet level officials for over an hour. No more information on the Prime Minister. Confirmation his helicopter made it to destination but no contact since. Deathtoll nationwide likely in the low millions, though impossible to verify. Will increase exponentially in comings hours and days if the situation is not rectified soon.

    God Save the Queen

It's funny, I was reading the Crossed timeline, but then someone compared it to "Green Antarctica". I looked that up, and so far I can't stop reading it. Thanks for introducing me to this site, Babu Dhakal. This has been quite a good investment!
