Picked up Child of Light over the weekend and had a chance to play around with it before The Insanity of this week hit me. It's one of the few games with turn-based fighting that I actually enjoy (Costume Quest is the only other exception), and the incredible art make it a joy to play. Fucking hate the dialogue though.

I really like the dialogue, one of the things that really sold me on the game, hehe...

Why yes, I am rather fond of twin-stick arcade shooters, why do you ask? :)

I've gotten hooked on Marvel Heroes. It's a free-to-play Diablo-kinda game, and it's pretty fun for what it is. And the F2P aspect of it isn't totally evil; you can pay real money to collect all the characters and costumes if you want, but it's fully playable if you don't, and characters and costumes are all purchasable w/ in-game currency/show up as super-random drops. Thankfully I'm not dying to get any extra characters. Storm's one of the starters you can pick, and she's really fun to play.

Humble's doing daily bundles, so now I have Saints Row 2 and 3 for cheap. We are very strapped for cash this week, so I couldn't get the above-the-average stuff. But! Still!

Just finished Kentucky Route Zero act 3 and I'm again amazed, humbled and a little jealous. As an art game aficionado, I wholeheartedly approve of their hijinx. Here's my write-up of the first two acts, this was pretty much more of the same, but in a good way.

    Anyone else playing Transistor?

I broke down and bought it. Everything about it is really good but I feel like there's certain something missing.

I'm still going to play the hell out of it(I really enjoy the main/sub function of every 'weapon') but I don't know, maybe it hits its stride a little bit further in.

Bear in mind I haven't played a ton of it.

It's kind of pretty and lovely all the way through, but I'm not sold on its combat mechanics. Feels like almost every power stalls you for long enough that you have to be using it in turn-based mode, or die. It may be that I just turned on too many limiters. I'm currently stopped halfway through New Game+ with all the limiters turned on and about half my abilities overloaded. Wasn't too impressed with the finale TBH, sort of felt like when they run out of time at the end of a Dr Who episode.

    Get + Crash
    Tap + Jaunt + Flood

Huh. Yeah, I guess I can see how you could do some good stuff with that. I've been mostly relying rather heavily on a lot of debuff-debuff-debuff-cloak-backstab-runlikefuck type tactics.

    What. The. Shit.

I'm late to the party and apparently a bit slow in this (I blame hunting endangered wild life instead of following the main story of the game) but really, the Far Cry 3 backstory is serious?! Not a GTAesque bad taste parody of a 20-something Mighty Whitey landing on an island and basically pooping over every warning light ever, and being the most intricately juvenile wish fulfillment fantasy for a 20-something fratboy I've seen in ages. Jesus.

My favourite parts from yesterday's "let's catch up with the main plot" was the main character pushing away the girlfriend who was kind of worried that gathering guns and killing a shitload of people isn't maybe okay with a "don't make this about us", and the defining characteristic of the first gay NPC being that he was Mr Creepy Sadistic Murdering Rapist, not to mention setting Ms. Ethnic Mystic Thongsuit as a blatant future fuck-interest. I mean, there was someone in the studio who thought that "okay, this is a fun and a sensible plotline"?

While you're on that one, go have a look at the interviews with the writer who claimed it's none of those things and that we just didn't 'get his vision'. Seriously.
  8.  (11312.75)
Yeah, I checked that out. Jebus, quite the vision: let's satirisize a shitty thing by copying the shitty thing exactly. I don't need and want for satire have a ton of hilighter but oh come on.

I was suprised about HOW MUCH it was an old pulp story with newer hardware and not in a good way.

The venn diagram overlap between "Satire" and "Things people think are satire" gets smaller and smaller by the minute.
  9.  (11312.78)
Yeah. Faffing around was quite fun, but the main questline really put me off that. Oh well, washed the taste away by getting the Wolf Amongst Us for X360 and playing the first episode. It's a shame I can't move my Walking Dead game saves from the laptop to X360, would like to continue that one on the console too. Damn these are both awesome stuff.

Argh. I preordered Watch_Dogs and I'm still excited to play it, but now all I want to play is Murdered: Soul Suspect.

    Re: Far Cry 3

I literally quit playing after the mission where you have to burn down a field of cannabis while getting really high and blasting Skrillex. And to the people who haven't played the game, I am not making any of that up.
