It's Thursday! It's mid-afternoon in London! It's another wrongheaded morning in Mericky! Everyone in Australia is dead from spiders and snakes and poisonous accents, apparently. And it's time for more Crossed hideosity!

    Episode 83, live and free-to-air.

Remember: Not safe for work, not safe for minors, not safe for people of a nervous disposition, not safe for the GEFFRYE MUSEUM.

Ha ha, oh God, that last panel...

My tears are a delicious mix of mirth and fear. Will we be seeing our familiar cast with newly-adorned facial markings next time?

And ooh, how typical, how absolutely bloody TYPICAL of Shakey not to even notice the lack of populace at 'HQ' for a good while, like some dazed, arthritic double-take. But it wasn't because of recent events that you failed to take the lack of ambience into account, is it, eh? No. It was business as usual where your observation skills concerning anyone but yourself are concerned. You take the cake, Shakey old son, you really do.

Did I say mirth and fear? Hmm, scratch the mirth.

I think they cleared off leaving Shakey to 'enjoy' his grotesque romance.

    Or they were cleared.

If they are all now infected, they are going to love ripping him to pieces. He has screwed every single person he's met on the path he's taken since the world turned into some psychotic ADD nightmare, and all these people still alive are likely dripping (?) with vengeance, like the wronged ghosts in FLATLINERS.

So, finally registered. Been a long time lurker having stumbled across WYWH right at the end of Vol 3.
Plowed through the lot in an evening and the waiting between Thursdays becomes a certain kind of pain, it's that damn good.

Anywhoo, re-read the entire thing again over the week to prepare for the end, and you certainly see certain things in a new light, such as when Seline recounts the real version of events following the Fort battle, the Aoileen can be seen holding a radio.

Anyway, to weigh in on issues present, I assume the Islanders are with Aoileen, as when she spoke to Shaky, she said she wasn't with the gang of Crossed chasing him, so where might she be otherwise?

Can't decide what is going to be worse, finding out what happened to the islanders or seeing the fate of the kids in the church. Carnage all around.

Reminds me of the Crossed pilots in Family Values as well as Skip's back-story. I think this is the first time that Garth has made that "official" in C-verse, so to speak.

And Shaky and Aoileann's conversation over the radio was creepy and interesting in that not once did Aoileann lace her words with profanities like the Crossed normally do. If it hadn't been for the Crossed font and Aoileann's short sentences, it would've come across as pretty normal, actually.

Mysteries, mysteries...well unlike Shakey I'm hanging out to have these mysteries solved. It's like 1 answer per week and 4 more questions.

Well, looks like the Rapture finally happened.

I think Aoileann is simply what she appears to be. A nun who got crossed. That supreme self-control mixed with C. When this little story is over, she will be the character everyone remembers.

Quick question: In the first panel at the end it appears that Shaky is cut off by the radio clicking out, but sound the radio makes is in crossed font. So was that Theresa making the noise or the radio? Perhaps an error?

I agree that Theresas faith contributes to making her the way she is, but she was also in a coma from a car accident and suffers from epilepsy, and a common theme I have found in the crossed comics, particularly the arcs that Si writes, is that the infection reacts oddly in people with broken brains. It typically allows those infected to act and think more rationally than most crossed do. If you haven't already, I advise you to read the "Love Conquers" arc in badlands. Issues 18 and 19. It touches on that subject a bit.

Dammit, Past Tense Shakey! You're genre-savvy enough to know that the horror world punishes intercourse!

@kzootron; I wondered the same thing about the radio click.

Just a thought: what if the finale is Shakey alone on the island forevermore, watched and guarded and kept isolated and 'pure.' No, the other crossed couldn't hold out that long. Maybe she will have them all killed and go to join him on the island?

Maybe the original image of Shakey up the tower surrounded by crossed is how its all going to end.

    (1) Si is known for doing B when you are sure the story is going towards A.
    (2) Shakey has often mentioned some unspecified harm he did to Aoileen, which we haven't seen happen in the flashbacks.
    (3) The Groundskeeper conspicuously did not know the details of Aoileen's turning.
    (4) It looks like Shakey and Aioleen are going to have a bland and uneventful last hour together before it all goes bad.
    (5) This last episode was on how the higher brain sometimes just shuts down.
    (6) Shakey never gets positive closure on anything - exhibit A being the coitus interruptus out in the field.

I worry that Shakey is going to do something awful to Aoileen, but before getting to finish the turned Vicar and his angry Crossed Kindergarten will burst up through the floor. This will make Shakey worse than the Gameskeeper, and will likely mean that Aoileen is doing all this not out of love true love but rather in an effort to extract horrible, horrible revenge.

Regarding whether it's the seizure or the background, it's probably a nature vs. nurture sort of thing. Both probably play a role or the biological has to be met before the original personality can have a greater impact.

Here's an interesting thought. I don't think that we've seen Aoileann have a seizure post-Crossed. It seems like that kind of weakness would be used for entertainment by fellow Crossed. Here's another interesting thought. I wonder if she had a seizure when she was turning Crossed?

And a final thought going back to Aoileann's religion. There is a belief that instances of demonic possession described by the Bible were actually people having seizures. As some might view become Crossed as similar to being possessed by a demon, it's an interesting parallel.

Both of David Hine's crossed arcs gave reference to the frontal part of the brain not being in use by those infected by the crossed infection, if that means anything. Which it probably doesn't since both of them were shite. (in my opinion of course)

"and I'm not there to say no"

Shakey's suddenly going to snap out of it and realise what's been going on the last day around him.
