I have to disagree completely; an "escape clause" here would be nothing more than a cop-out. Mr. Spurrier's better than that, or at least I hope so. Also, the characters from the Badlands arc you're referring to (SPOILER ALERT) died at the end of their story.

Actually, technically at least it's possible, because by the latest WYWH chapter it's been c. two years since C-Day, while "The Fatal Englishman" arc takes place five years after C-Day. So by this point in time Harry, Paddy, Jock and Taff (the characters from Fatal Englishman and now also Thin Red Line) are still very much alive, though they're probably wandering around somewhere in the south, far away from Cava. In any case they're creations of Garth Ennis, while Shaky et al are Si's creations, so there'd have to be a few legal hurdles to overcome if such a story were ever plotted.

    @Babu Dhakal
Ah, that makes sense (I never really paid much attention to the timeframe of Crossed). But is it really a legal problem with using Garth's characters? From what I remember, it was just an informal agreement he made with Avatar Press so that they could get his blessing to create a full blown series. Although I'm probably wrong about that, hehe.

Well, I do recall having read that Garth Ennis made Crossed a franchise since he didn't really have many more ideas of what to do in that universe, but the one explicit condition on writing a crossed story was "do not use any of my characters. And that includes humans and others. Also horsecock". Now, if he and Si talked to each other and Garth Ennis agreed on letting him use any characters, I suppose there'd be no problem.

But frankly, it sounds like too much trouble.

Anyways, I doubt Shaky will survive this. I mean, even the interlude hints at "the poor bastard"'s fate (mentioning how it takes a while to adapt it to a comic format when you have to remove bloodstains, re-stitch pages, etc). The one thing Shaky has never left behind is his diary, and if his diary has been "found" in that state...

I don't expect WYWH to have a "happy" ending (at least for Shaky) but I am hoping that it will be an... original one, for lack of a better word.

I am hoping that he ends up immune to the virus but chained up in a dungeon as the Nun's personal sex slave.

@ventur looks like you've really taken the story to heart :)

I really do love how this series is keeping us guessing on the ending. I remember when I used to frequent the Dynamite forums for Garth Ennis's the Boys, people could see plot twists coming from a mile off. Heck, even the big twist at the end was guessed down to the letter by at least two people.

The tension is palpable. In this world, no-one gets out un-crossed/alive, but I can't help rooting for the poor bugger finding happiness, in a nice peaceful cottage in the middle of no-where. With a nun.

It can't happen, it mustn't happen. it HAS to be distressing. But I still keep mashing the refresh button waiting for each new episode and hoping against odds that it's not as truly disastrous as every other single Crossed story has been so far for the protagonists.

Part of the difficulty of guessing is we've still got a bit of blindness on the nun's psychology and motivation.

I think the only possible twist would be if she were immune or uncrossed somehow.

I'm wondering about that. Even with that existing X, you'd think the cross bubbles would still appear, and they don't. And the crossed appear to 'run hot' with a bit of a fever, so they showed up a bit warmer on that IR camera used, but when it was pointed at a group+nun, she didn't appear to be running the same heat as the others.
I don't know if she's immune, in control, or it's mutated in her. There has to be something different, it can't be simply 'avoiding' as she's been too close around them, it'd have happened if she somehow had managed to avoid being infected immediately (the upcoming church scene we're all waiting for is going to be illuminating). Maybe he brain is wired different, why she had the fit earlier. But never seen her with a happy face with the Crossed, nothing but a scowl, maybe that's her inner wish, doom and vengeance? But still don't get why she didn't register as running a slight fever like the others.

@dannykat I don't think The Boys and WYWH aren't comparable as far as endings go. The major plot twists in the boys were predictable because we as readers knew the characters so well. There's just too many variables in WYWH. The only prediction I ever got correct was that the trash bag mummy was ashoke, and that was only after I saw the color of his skin before he rape/killed the old dentist woman. I'm certain Si has something great in store for us. And while we are on the subject of The Boys: who the hell killed Terror. It wasn't jack from Jupiter right?

Aye, old man Garth never did explain who killed Terror. It probably wasn't Jack from Jupiter (although it could be for all we bloody know) but I remember someone -- I don't remember who -- said that Butcher was a very likely suspect. After all, at that point he just wanted to lay waste to the supes, and, as the Deep pointed out, killing Terror would have been a good way to give the Boys justification to go to war. However, Butcher's brutal murder of Jack pointed to it being neither of them. My own theory is that it was Black Noir, since he also wanted a conflict, and he was was way too far gone to confess to any dog murder.

Noir had to be pretty darned restrained to not turn Terror into a mass of fur and blood.

As for her motivations and possible Crossedness, it was hinted in one story that the Crossed virus doesn't get along well when someone's brain has wires crossed(hah) Witness the one guy who was a drug user and got stuck in a loop or hunt/drugs/pass-out/hunt

But Black Noir's craAaAzy! Translation: he's a walking deus ex machina that does what Garth wants him to even if it makes no sense.

Anyways, back to Crossed. You do make a good point with the Crossed virus reacting differently if a person isn't all there, especially since the story you referenced is also written by Mr. Spurrier. Although it's a bit strange since the super-Crossed whose origins we've seen all had something exceptionally wrong with them before they turned; however, that just meant they followed the -- for lack of a better term -- "rules" of Crossed differently. Aoileann, on the other hand, seemed only slightly different than the average survivor, yet her Crossed self is breaking rules we never thought were possible to break in this world. Perhaps there's more to Aoileann than meets the eye, but what could it be...?

    Mysteries, mysteries, mysteries.

    To Babu -

Exactly - now the English Lads have gone back to the outbreak origin - the timeline can be whenever Si (or Garth) wants.

To those who think Aoileann is somehow immune and has desecrated herself to save Shaky (remember she let the UN troops - errrm 'relive' themselves over her, and as for the various severed limbs....) - maybe she is - lets face it - it's all about the Nun reaching Heaven - Sexually - and only Shakys cock has done that (I had no other way to put that).
So is it so far fetched that the endgame is for the pair of them to escape?

Imagine if the SAS lads pulled the pair of them from the sea, and after a good old shag with the Nun - and not being immune - Shaky turned.

Aoileann maybe wants to kill her false god. In the way he made her worship him. Sexually.

Anyway, I guess we will find out in about 6 hours!
  6.  (11341.78)

Ha-ha, that would be a good moment for Harry and the boys to make their cameo - at the very end, shooting Aoileann and Shaky dead due to them being Crossed.

And as for the latest episode - damn, I don't think I've ever seen any other Crossed exhibit the range of emotions that Aoileann's expressed.
  7.  (11341.79)
Sticky for the latest episode (ME FIRST - in blood-colored Crossed font) not up yet, but man this is gonna be good!
Am I the only one who says, "Goddamnit!" out loud when you turn the page and see that "to be continued"? I don't take this free, brilliant, webcomic for granted or anything, I just... they go by so fast and knowing I'll have to wait another week to find out what happens just frustrates me. NO OFFENSE MEANT AT ALL TO SI, I just can't help being bummed when I realize I've bolted down the last of this week's chapter.

I have faith that the climax is going to be amazing (and heart-breaking) ...but the fact there's what, only 7 chapters left (I am assuming interludes are not counted, least I hope not)... I am going to miss this so much when it's Thursday and I automatically go to only to remember it's all gone. Been following it voraciously week by week from the first chapter, and that's what... around two years now? I've looked forward to Thursday every week knowing the special treat I'll have since the dolphin blowhole rape debut. (Note: that doesn't mean I hope that'll dolphin rape will happen every week, I look forward to the story. Just so there's no confusion...)

She does have her seizures so that might be something that changed things.

I'm guessing that her 'never killed' is the thing that really irritates the other Crossed. We have seen things where if a Crossed shows sickness or weakness that they are killed so she has gotten away with it so far because of her ability to get them better kills but there is a limit.
