    Kind of bummed that this is ending. This was one I looked forward to every month. If you don't know about it you can read about it here:

    Thought it had been cancelled at first, but it sounds like Matt Fraction might have wanted to take it in a different direction then Marvel wanted:

    NRAMA: Do you have anything you'd like to say about the book's cancellation or future plans for the characters?

    MF: That the book wasn't cancelled: I chose to end it. Marvel allowed me to choose to leave the stage, rather than to continue on in a state in which I felt was compromised and decidedly unawesome.

    I don't think I was too clear about that on Word Balloon: it wasn't cancelled. I killed it. And if you're looking for the man that killed The Order, it was me.

    Now watch, nobody's gonna read that and nobody's gonna care, because it's way more fun the other way. Oh well.

    Since I have a big-time man-crush on Matt Fraction, it goes without saying that I've been following this book, and was sadden to have found out about the end of it when he did that Word Balloon podcast a little while back (thank you for that link to the Newsarama interview, though, I somehow had missed it). I'm really hoping he'll bring more than just Pepper Potts to his on-going Invisible Iron Man book starting up in May. If nothing else, I have my figures crossed that he'll make room for Anthem. One of my favorite things about the Order is Henry Hellrung, and his dealings with Tony Stark. But yeah, the Order is one of the countless reasons why I pray to the altar of Fraction.

    I am/was. Even reviewed it something like three times for the AICN site I enjoyed it so much and wanted to see it continue. And that's fine that he came out and said he killed it, but there was no way in hell it was going to survive off the sales it had anyway. It had ANT-MAN level sales, and it got the ax at 12 issues much like I assume THE ORDER would have itself. Just business I guess...

    It is a shame to see it go, just got #8 and it's really started to find it's feet. Although how long the little interview introductions (which are it's coolest aspect) would've continued before losing their appeal I don't know.

    Still, Iron Fist is still going strong, and the 'Green Mist of Death' one shot this week contains the line 'don't shoot until you see the whites of their thighs', which made me happy.

    while i was/am reading the order, i do think it was fraction's weakest book currently. im sure it would have found its place solidly, but it just didnt have time. unfortunately, it seems this weeks issue was the best so far, leaving me to believe it wouldve just kept getting more attention and better sales. oh well. i will just shift that three bucks across to his new iron man book....

    The Order is my favorite new "Initiative" book, a great experiment that just didn't get there because it didn't get its legs. I don't think it's the weakest at all.

    On Matt's board he said the reason he canned it was because the book wasn't going to be able to continue with Barry Kitson on art, and Matt felt that he couldn't keep writing the book if Kitson wasn't on board because he brought so much to the book.

    So, I think it was basically the same deal as with Warren & Nextwave - Marvel are happy to have the book continue, but only with a different (and I suppose cheaper) artist. The writer doesn't feel like the book can or should continue with a different artist, so they call it quits rather than allow it to continue in a bastardised form.

    (For some reason that page of discussions on Matt's board won't open up, so I can't double-check my facts. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.)

    EDIT: Forgot to say, haven't actually read any of The Order yet, but I'm going to order the first trade this week, along with the next issue of Casanova.

    that cover is fucking hilarious. and also, saying something is fractions weakest current book is like saying this taco is the weakest- a bad taco still kills 99% of other foodstuff (well, at least for me, but im in phoenix. i reside in the land of perpetual taco town!)

    That totally makes sense. At first I was wondering if Marvel might have thought a comic book where one of the team characters has a sex tape might be a little over the top.

    While I can completely respect Matt for making this decision, it's tough as a fan of The Order. Some people might think this was his weakest book, but for me it might be my favorite of his (I think Iron Fist is great, but not exactly sure how much is Fraction and how much is Brubaker). While the art certainly helps make the book for me, I think I could deal with a different artist on this just to be able to see where the story is going. But hey- it's gotta be a tough thing to create something with an artist and then have to switch to someone else mid-stream.

    I'm a bit bummed, too. The Order was one of the books I looked forward to the most each month. If it really is a matter of not wanting to continue without Kitson, though, I can understand... Kitson's work was fan-fucking-tastic and I really felt like Fraction was knocking it out of the park. Mulholland has been one of my favorite new superhero characters (pink-and-blond haired rocker chick hitting people with giant goddamnned hammer... how can you go wrong?) and I do think something would be lost under another artist's pen.

    Sucks, but dem's the breaks, I guess. Maybe they'll put out a nice little hardcover of all ten issues, if I'm lucky.

    It started out a bit slow, but then, all of a sudden, I realized I was looking forward to it each month. I was definitely bummed when I heard it had been cancelled. Definitely looking forward to his Iron Man book!

    I take Fraction's comment about choosing to und it rather than watering it down to mean Marvel wanted a revamp and was prepared to try a different approach before simply cancelling it.

    No.

    Fraction said the sales meant they couldn't afford Kitson on the book, so Fraction decided to end it rather than do it with a different artist.

    Same situation as Nextwave, essentially.

    You know, you have to admire Marvel on this right now. They are showing an incredible willingness to work with their writers as best they can within the limitations of WFH economics. It shows both a inherent respect to the artists behind the work and to the readers.
