Reports of bear attacks have intensified fears among the local residents, while sympathy for the animals has been dwindling. Only recently has the Environment Ministry made an official announcement that an average five to six people a year are attacked by bears - and the tendency was rising.
i like our bears...KY mostly have black bears...they're pretty shy...i tromped through the woods my whole life and have only seen 'sploded trees and claw marks and poo... sounds like the electric fences are a good idea...maybe a one week open hunting season to reduce the population a bit. IF they are having trouble finding enough natural food sources there may be too many of them. It's better to cull a bit then let them starve or raid human settlements.
I generally am on the side of the critters involved, but a few bears taken out to get the population to a healthy enviromentally stable level isn't such a bad idea...
