i can't dj, as i like vinyl too much to inflict suffering upon it, I did, however, used to play records in between bands at a venue where I worked.

Great idea ! Here's a radio show we did for brap fm ...some kind of beats station based in Brighton , normally specialising in hiphop and trance.

We , however , went for playing an hour and a half of Faust , Black Moth Super Rainbow , Pram , Kemiallset Ystavat , Coil ,
Scott Walker , Autechre , Sunburned Hand of the Man , Radiophonic Workshop , and ,er , some of our own stuff.

"Hi-Octane House Party" is my latest Podcast episode. It took a while to be released. But I believe it was definitely worth the wait! This is one of those "Transport-You-Into-A-New-Dimension" mixes. Have you've ever been in the middle of the dancefloor at the Peakhour of the night and you get completely lost in the music and lightshow - and realize you're in another world? The music takes over and everything is amazing ... That's just about the best feeling there is! And I wanted to create that - if I could bottle it up I would, but at least I can download it, transfer it to an mp3 player and take it with you where ever ... so that's just as good, I suppose.

I'm not much of one for creation of fun stuff like this, I dabble a bit, but mostly just enjoy the fruit of others' labor. I may have missed it being linked before, but Get Your Bootleg On moved into their fifth incarnation a little while ago. GYBO v.5 has been one of my favorite sites for finding fun mash-ups and advice for getting my own stuff up to snuff. Trust me, if you haven't checked out the site yet, it's well worth the time spent registering and browsing a bit.

As a live set parts of this are a little sloppy and intentionally jarring. The squarepusher -> m1dy non-mix will make your cat jump 4 feet stright up but that's ok because he's a cat and doesn't have a soul anyway.

*Tacogrind is a blend of live PA and DJing material heavily remixed / edited by Tacopunch and a return to producing heavy beat material. (Or pretending to be Dev/Null)

This is a live recording from my favorite place to play, The Bassment in Ann Arbor. The Bassment ended on 07/27/08 when they were kicked out by their landlord for some frat boys who would pay $300 more a month. Honestly the place was a shit hole but we loved it. (Fun Fact: the night of the last show 1/2 of the porch went missing)

...and now for something ELSE completely different...
First off; thanks to everyone who has been providing this amazing cross-section of DJ skill and vision. Makes me proud to see all the boundaries being smashed down, and rebuilt so well.

Second; I wanted to share this part of my latest project, "B.P.M." It's a full color graphic novel about a girl DJ named Roxy making her way through the club world of NYC, and her hooking up with a burnt out former superstar DJ who becomes her "Yoda", teaching her the ways of deejaying.

I decided from the start that I wanted to make this project a truly multimedia comic experience, faced with the challenge of writing about music and having that make any sense. I decided to accomplish this by giving "B.P.M." a "soundtrack", meaning I would assign music to all the pages, not to be read along, but to use songs to evoke the moods in the story. Not having the resources to license all the music I wanted to use, I instead made iMixes on the iTunes site for the entire book,along with iMixes for each of the main DJ characters in the book, reflecting their personal tastes and fave picks for a set. These are all single songs, not continuous beatmixed mixes, but I was trying to emulate more the "Back to Mine" series of releases, that showed a DJ's personal stash of cool singles they loved.

Wilderness Mix by Texture

An old mix, this one... Tried to make a new one, but unavoidable shitness syndrome consumed my ability to mix. Sigh. Still, this one starts off in a sedate enough fashion before exploding in a riot of bass towards the end. A bit like my weekend, which started off with calming, soothing walks in the forest, and ended with us tearing the same forest up on dirty great quad bikes. Awesome!

@ ales most of what I do right now is remixes and re-edits in ableton and then I spit them to traktor and outboard fx for more tweaking. Here's a glitched up grind metal megamix/remix/mash I did Did you hear about the halfling that died on her wedding night? they say her eyes were bigger than her stomach!" It sounds pretty awesome as is but much better if you pitch it up 20-30% and dance in a toga while screaming D+D facts over the top.

@ Texture so far sex pixels have been awesome but slow building. worm-o and i live in different states right now (soon to be remedied). I have some studio stuff waiting for vocals (the mp3 up is a live recording of a show we played and right before our set we began to perceive signals from other dimensions *wink*wink* so after about 30 min worm got lost getting more beer and then for the rest of the set just helped out w/ the djing and fx)

I first came upon the sound by djing electro the way I dj breakcore (aka +20-35%). When you speed electro up that fast it become proto dnb/so much rave. It's like trading a distopian future where robots are hunting humanity for a utopian future where robots are dispensing pills to humanity. Lyrically I think Worm pulls inspiration from old booty records, ghettotech and, aliens/sf.

That sounds ideal. I play at a club which shall remain nameless in Edinburgh... it's constantly full of 18 year olds who've just arrived in the city to study. I've played there for several years, and to paraphrase Dazed & Confused... "I keep getting older... they just stay the same." It has its advantages and disadvantages. This year, they've started requesting dubstep, which is a nice change from the disco shit they all wanted last year. So the sign doesn't get much use these days, I'm pleased to say..

This was intended to be a short throwaway mix for a friend, but it came out way way tight, I was like "gosh".

I both loved and hated your playlist. Loved because you included some of my current favorite bands. Hated because I considered making a mix, but it would have included some of the same songs. I purposefully did not read any lists past the first page to remain untainted (taint free?) in my selection process, but "bloc party" caught my eye and I was gone. So, I am going to rethink my current musical purpose and redress this issue in the future.

I used to spin two nights a week at an industrial /goth joint once upon a time. I believe that strips away an DJ cred with which I would hope to enter into this thread, but I am seeking redemption. Songs I NEVER played, EVER:

NOT a Playlist, or Anti-playlist (I do quite like other songs by these bands except for the first one, but song burnout is a hard way to go)

Cry Little Sister (why do many idiots think that this Lost Boys soundtrack song is the Sisters of Mercy? Because the title has 'sister' in it? )
Nemesis by Shriekback - the WORST gothic line dance, goose two-step 'seig heil' song ever.
Bela Legosi's Dead - if there is a goth cliche, it's this song.
The Vampire Song - Concrete Blonde (the V:TM LARP theme song. No thanks)
Just Like Heaven - No happy songs by the Cure--that defeats the purpose.
She Sells Sanctuary - No car commercials (Nissan)
How Soon Is Now? - see above
Every Day is Halloween - Ministry (because that Ministry choked on its own fecal matter and died)
Rigor Mortis - A Split Second; I got into a fight with the band, their roadies, security, etc. I won, by the way.
This is Halloween - Nightmare before Xmas (fart)
Blue Monday/Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order (overplayed)
Front 242 - Headhunter (and it's "Hey Poor B-side)(overplayed)
Xian Woman - Type O Neg (after they covered Hedvig, it made the rest of their catalog useless)
Beloved - VNV Nation (because no one wants to see a goth cry. OK, that's not true)
Temple of Love (the 'fucked by the voice of Ofra Haza' extended day and a half long remix) (Ofra Haza was immensely talented, her songs are fine. I like mint, I like chocolate, but put them together and it makes me vomit. Same thing with Ofra Haza and Sisters of Mercy)
Closer - NIN (Absurd=the way people dance to this song when it gets to "I wanna fuck you like you're flammable," I mean "like an animal")
You Suck - Yeastie Girls (see above but with reference to all the lyrics, as the ladies dance in such a way as to invite oral sex, and the little boys wrap around and cling to them like another layer of spandex in such a way as to respond "I'll do it!")
I sit on Acid - Lords of Acid (see two lines above but with reference to "sit on my face")
Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode (I like most of their songs, just not that one)

So, there you have it, a setlist that happens damn near weekly at most one night a week goth/industrial/80s retro/polka breakdance house clubs, but not here and not by me. Feel free to retire more songs into an anti-playlist, because there is nothing worse than an overplayed, pavlovian race to the dancefloor, dance by the numbers, bad song. amen

Haven't posted here for AGES! I'm going to be away from Whitechapel, and also FB and Twitter, for more than a week, so here's a treat for all you wonderful people.

This mix is a few years old - uploaded because I promised various people some new music at Black Lantern Music Dot Com, and for whatever reasons it hasn't quite happened yet. No new mixes recorded of late, but I am still alive, and will have my decks back soon! Plus I'm fucking around with Ableton, so we'll see what happens. It's an attempt to nail down a genre I made up for a laugh, Illbient... Because it's ambient but also def, funky, fresh, wild and bold. And freaky. And a little bit goth.

and while the trifecta of work/internship/grad school is killing me I have three mixes in the works. Next wed is my day devoted to working on them and hopefully finishing up 1 or 2.

So I don't have a Mixcloud account but I've got a Soundcloud... hahahaha. Behind the times. Just finished this earlier today. It's a graffiti-themed Hip-Hop mixtape, called "Mildstyle" (re: this). It really, really was not to hard to find a wide-variety of rap songs about graffiti; as it shouldn't be. There's a bit of a variety. Anyways, here's the link.
