I'm definitely going to enjoy Ghosts rather a lot...

And Mary-Anne Hobbs' experimental show on BBC iPlayer. Last I heard her on the radio she was presenting the Rock Show but now it would seem she is the champion of the dubstep\grime community. Shows how much attention I pay.

Yeah, the BBC have a habit of being able to spontaneously change the speciality of their presenters. I don't trust it, and I worked for 'em for years and years. I distinctly remember Annie Nightingale referring to "New School Breakbeat..." when Nu Skool Breaks came along for those D&B-heads whose speed dealers were on voicemail, and not really believing her.

This week, so far, I'm revisiting some swirly Verve, working to Adam Freeland's Back To Mine and some of that minimal electro stuff. Going to tackle Dig, Lazarus, Dig when I've got the house to myself. And playing anything that will help me forget I spend good money on The Imagined Village.

Wow haven't been here in awhile glad you guys got a new music section up. I'm listening to the new NIN album, that was dropped sunday night with no warning or ads for it. Its all instrumental and you can download it for free check it out. Its called Ghosts . Its very nice stuff.

Saw Portico play last week. Lyn Heineman's musical writing skittles make me happy. They released their last album not six months ago and have almost another fully formed/tightened album going. Considering they lost a guitarist in that time, I find it pretty impressive.

I hear Holy Fuck is even better live, apparently some of their equipment caught fire before their set in Vancouver and it didn't stop them one bit.

This week, I'm listening to a couple things that, as an American, I shouldn't have yet:

"Dig, Lazarus, Dig" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Some Grinderman added to the Seeds sound. Good.

"Trouble in Dreams - Destroyer: Pretty much what you'd expect from Dan Bejar. So, if you like that kind of thing (which I do), it's very good.

I got Dig Lazarus Dig and Go Away White this morning.

Go Away White is great but it just isn't 'Bauhaus'. It is a bit odd that they released it under that name in my opinion. After all this time and with such a different sound and feeling it seems totally out of place. On it's own merits it is a great album though.

Just about to put Lazarus on now. I haven't had time to listen yet.

I loved so many things about The Ghost Station (which Warren recently posted) that I was compelled to look at more of Kristen Roo's work.
I am now listening through all the broadcasts he has up on Micro Radio.
They come with short descriptions to set you up for what it is you're experiencing.

I completely recommend it.

Stolen right out of his bio:

His sound and installation usually involves a translation, or change, from one state to another. Objects normally used to bring information in a particular way are repurposed, and reconstructed into new vibrating forms. These temporary structures hope to inspire infinite interpretations for the objects and spaces that make up the world around us.

The Ghost Station - in case you missed it - is worth taking a look at and reading through the small number of entries describing it in the blog.
An attempt to entice you that hopefully doesn't ruin it by pulling it out of its thoughtful context:

So..let's assume for argument sake, that the natural world is dead in downtown Toronto, and lets also assume that infrasound did not exist in the pre-settler urban Toronto soundscape. Then, having assumed this, could the introduction of tactile sound be looked at as the sound created by the dead natural world--the ghosts and spirits?

Great antidote for this folk devotee who was seriously disappointed by The Imagined Village; Dark Brittanica has such an evocative edge... you can really imagine yourself standing there as the Wicker Man goes up in flames... putting it on now...

Very excited by the John Barleycorn album...till I get it have been listening to Lightning Bolt for their strangely serene noiseblasts , and New Zealand indie failures The Chills " Submarine Bells" for their poptasticness.

And the much-praised MGMT...not sure if they're melodic frazzled geniuses or the new Dandy Warhols , who I hate for their sense of irony . Too cool to love.

Currently listening to Why?'s album "Elephant Eyelashes." Not quite as good as their recent release, but still absolutely fantastic. Best lyrics in the industry, I'd say.

16 Horsepower is one of my all time favorite bands, their live show was absolutely mesmerizing. Now I'm wishing I'd put "Hoarse" on my ipod last night.

This morning it's been:

Firewater - The Golden Hour
Worth the three year wait. It's definitely their most consistent album since the Ponzi Scheme.

The Moonlighters - Dreamland
a 30's Jazz/Hawaiian band led by Noise Rock goddess, Bliss Blood.

Day of the Dead-Kill or Be Killed

Very cool mix of surf guitar and spaghetti western intstrumentals. The soundtrack to that surf/road movie with gunslingers and zombies that Im waiting for someone to write. Moody, funky and completely free at the above link.

"She Moves In Her Own Way" just made me want to drink and dance. That's all music really has to do to get me in its corner.

Pretty hard to argue with that.

On a related note, I'm listenin' to "You Can Make Me Dance, Sing Or Anything (Even Take The Dog For A Walk, Mend A Fuse, Fold Away The Ironing Board, Or Any Other Domestic Short Comings)" by the Faces at the moment.

I like the new Russian Circles Album "Station" very, very much. It's a great mixture of psychedelic/orchestral Postrock/Shoegaze/... kind of instrumental music comibened with a pretty heavy Rock/Metal edge.
