I've been listening to the new Portishead. There's some strange bit of video game resonance in there -- like it wants, at times, to be the soundtrack to running down rendered cement corridors. ...

On the first two or three listens it's an album that triggers the feeling of fast movement in a heavy fog or repeated backgrounds -- thinking you're going forward but with no frame of reference it could just be circles. After a few replays, it's a bit like the foghorns I hear in the mornings -- there's nothing new to the sounds of warning and calling out for something you can't quite see, but it's a familiar comfort, too. The Exploding Hearts are great. If you like that sort of spiky power-pop you should check out The Tranzmitors.

For the last two days I've been listening to Bomb the Music Industry non-stop they're a ska/punk/electronic collective but that makes them sound like the worst sound in the world when actually they're incredible. They release all their albums for free online. I think Get Warmer is my favourite at the moment.
