Do you know, my brain has been so deadened by work today I'm not even sure what I'm typing...I actually meant comic con. A Wales coming soon is often, what else are we supposed to do....only so many songs to sing.
HA! I would love to read Warren's take on my home town. The way he wrote about San Diego's convention ranked up there with Hunter Thompson's piece on the Kentucky Derby to me.
Come to Chicago sir, we will feed you many kinds of meats and cheeses.
Welcome to Chicago, Mr. Ellis. It's a hell of a town, and full on with the "Midwest Experience" that you've heard about in your most unfocused dreams/nightmares.
Truthfully, even though this is a "Wizard" convention, the reason this con is successful is because it in fact DOES have a life of it's own above and beyond WIzard's touch. This con would exist through a nuclear bomb, and the Artist Alley is actually one that fought and GOT BACK its main hall position rather than being dropped into a smaller, adjacent hall.
but, the pizza - no one has spoken of the pizza...
also, the Taste is going on at the same time, so Mr. Ellis can get to known each and every citizen of Chicago physically at Grant Park. also really fucking awesome pulled pork. and a rainbow cone.
The artists alley at the Chicago Convention really is a thing to see. Seeing Farel Dalrymple, Eric Powell and Christopher Shy in a very relaxed setting was very cool. I even got to meet Martin Nodell, the nice old man who created "Green Lantern" before he passed.
The big booths don't hold much appeal for me. Waiting on line for 2 or 3 hours to rush past some bleery-eyed creator isn't what I go for.
I hope someone films this one. Last years sound recording of "Warren Ellis - extreme sport drinks' tester" was a classic of the genre, but I feel we missed out on some of the visual aspects of his talk. Any chance one of the nice people going to this could film it for our delectation and delight?
