Warren, aside from the works of JG Ballard (I'm well into those), which novellas would you recommend? Or at the very least, which writers excel in that story format (20,000-40,000 words).

Warren,

A) Favourite graphic designers / piece of graphic design - and why?
B) How do you approach the design of your own books (like all the Planetary covers, Ministry of Space,... or more recently the Doktor Sleepless "warning sings" covers...

I'm asking because you're one of the few writers (in comics) that I'm aware of that is quite involved with how a book looks and understands that the design is an integral part of the whole package...

warrenellis typed and this came out:
Nope. I come from the old school where a writer is a person who sits alone in a room and beats on a keyboard with their fists until the machine surrenders and spits out the story they wanted.

Yeah, this is the only way to roll. I've long since found that workshops and writer's circles are, for me, just fancy methods of procrastination. Like people who spend ages hunting for obscure and strange word processor software before being able to start.

The only way to write to get some work done is to be alone and bash it out. If you do want to and write, then write. Sit and write.

Oh yes, never forget that lying is not a form of creativity, creativity is a form of lying.

Cheers,

Chris.

Just curious: How do you feel about science fiction cinema? Are there any films in the genre you've found inspirational for your work? Or simply entertaining? Thanks. /Mathias

Do you wish you never started this discussion?

I was asked, but my Marvel contract precludes it, and I'm not a fan of the publisher in question.

May I ask why you don't like Dark Horse?

No, I took my family out for dinner and then to see the Yamato Drummers.

Me? I'm just curious what Mr. Ellis likes to smoke and drink.

And when can I expect Desolation Jones #12 on the shelf?

First, you didn't read the rules.

Warren: "One condition: no questions about when stuff's due to come out. It makes me feel like a walking calendar for the internet. I won't answer those questions anymore, so don't bother asking."

Second, when did I miss issues 9,10, and 11? My collection stops at #8.

Warren, do you listen to music while you write? If so is there a particular band which helps you work?

Also, do you drink red bull to help get you into a certain state of mind for writing? Or is it purely to wake you up?

Hey, cool! I've seen them, over a decade ago, and I still have the CD. Hope you liked it, it was a lot more engaging entertainment than one might think.

Some answers to that question can be found here, regarding whisky, and I seem to remember the cigarette question being answered too, but it's too early and I've had no coffee. Here, have this link instead.

Check out the Search tab, it's actually a very useful function. And I see you've just gotten here, so welcome.

Warren,

I read that you are going to be on ASTONISHING X-MEN for 24 issues. If this is true, why two years on that when most of your WFH lasts for 12 issue or so? Just curious...

If asked, would you consider writing an episode of Doctor Who?

(I know, I know.)

I know you're into Bill Hicks and Patton. What do you think of George Carlin? His latest HBO special was so good, the man has aged like a fine, pissed off wine.

Also - What happened to your "Ministry" column? Is that done with?

Should they start building Obama's pope mobile?
