Don;t you love it when calm, rational logical button-downed scientists take a calm, rational logical button-downed look at a real-world problem and come up with a totally mad solution. (Like say injecting yourself with H Pylori or inserting a catheter up your own arm all the way into your heart and then walking around with it in place or building a plane that runs on hydrazine and hydrogen peroxide that has no landing gear.)

Anyway, NASA want to provide greater mobility for future moon missions than the relatively short range offered by moon rovers.

So, inspired apparently by Baba Yaga hut NASA wants to build a gigantic six-legged robot called ATHLETE that would pick up an entire 15 tonne living module and walk it to a new position up to 1,000 kilometres away.

Can I commute to work in this thing?

Yes but alternately work can commute to you.

Wait 'til the Jesusland Republicans realise it uses even more fuel per mile than a Hummer.

I just really want to utilize the symbolism of pulling into the office parking lot and stepping out of a Nasa vehichle wearing a business suit + tie, toting a suitcase.

    @ Kosmopolit

Does it come with a fence made of children's bones with glowing skulls for gate lamps? Or a hopping chicken-leg option?
Those might entice me to buy one. That and the perky pre-teen-burning oven.

I already have the flying mortar & pestle and the wooden legs.
