Been poking around here lately. I enjoy Warren's writing so I thought I would have a look about. And I can honestly say that the people and topics found in these discussion threads aren't irritating and depressing. Which is alot more than can be said for any other forum I have looked about. Usually, it doesn't take more than 5 minutes to find a thread that disgusts or infuriates.
So basically, way to go ;)

You just haven't been reading the right threads.

    I'd second that.

We foster a lot of alternative opinions and unpopular attitudes. That means we don't always get along, but we make an effort to be respectful of other people's views. ... Oh what the fuck, I'm lying-- we live in fear of the arse eels. We behave because the wrath of Mr Ellis is great.

You're going to find threads you disagree with, just be mindful of how you respond-- someone is always watching.

This board provides more intelligent discussions than my other frequented board...

Yeah this board is full of a lot more level headed people than most forums I frequent. Even debates are (usually) pretty civil, which is nice.

I love the look of this board more than anaything. That's what gets me to hang around, more so than the politeness and intelligence. Ever take a look at Jinxworld? I love Bendis to death, but Ech!

I also really like the look of the forums, although it could use for some extra features (like the ability to send private messages, for example. I don't really get why you can't do that).

It can be very easily abused. Therefore I keep it inactivated.

I've found people on this forum are a relatively friendly bunch. I've never had trouble getting a message to someone off of the forum.

I like the strict control of fanboy tendencies, plus it's the best place to find all the high quality netstuffs.

And yeah, it is very pretty, a pleasure to use in general... Props to Ariana!

This is one of the only message boards I've seen where people are more likely to stop themselves from getting overheated in an argument than necessitating a moderator coming in to remind people that they are grown-ups. The mods here sink and close threads quickly and with lethal efficiency. Keeps the place tidy and the discussions lively.

I'm on a couple professional messageboards/forums and there are places with fully paid moderation where things aren't nearly as well run.

Think on this. There's a 1000+ message thread on policics that's been running since Super-Tuesday with only the occasional mild rumpus. There are discussions of comics that don't degenerate into "Bendix Sux". It's a testament to Ellis and the fine folks running this place. Thank you.

I love the interesting subject matter and the lack of asshole posters in here. I have no idea why I didn't visit the engine when it was around - I knew it was there. Glad I hang around in whitechapel now though, even though I'm not the most vocal of peeps - there's a lot of good people here.

For a moderation team, I think its still just Warren and The Mechanic, yes?

No wonder neither of them sleep...

@ JTraub - Yes, that's right, Warren and Ariana (that's CHIEF Mechanic to you) keep this place humming along all on their own.

Uh huh. Ariana! Ariana! Ariana! Let's all say it together!
(Did I mention I've had two monster energy drinks?)

Ironically, fellatio threads are rampant on other forums too.

I post on a toy collectors board i've been going to for about six years on and off now. Not the most intelligent or stimulating conversation, but at this point I've met alot of the guys there and we've done business with a few so I find myself going back alot, despite the Hot Chicks Thread that never leaves the first page...

Yeah I guess people would probably spam your inbox pretty hard if private messages were enabled. As for everyone else though, a simple block of any abuser is an easy fix.
