    No problem :)

    I don't know of any tarantulas in particular that kill from their poison. I think it's primarily the bite. I know Ornamentals have particularly bad bites......my dude was bit by one, and said it felt like having his hand bashed by a hammer over and over.

    Here's what bit him....

    I was once bit by a Brown Recluse. Fucked my day all up... I'm now a big believer in Raid...

    i was bitten by some type of spider or another when I was in highschool. I only saw a little motion blur and felt a sharp agonizing pain ripping up and down my arm that didn't go away for quite some time. The bite started out a blood red speck, and then turned into an eight inch deep bubble of green ick over the course of a day or so. I cleaned it up and it healed, but I still have a little circular scar on my arm.

    @Alastair: Which spider?

    @Pooka: Um.....that's gross. And painful. By the sounds of it, anyway. I've never been bit by a spider. Not while I was awake, anyway, and the only times I thought I'd been bit, nothing happened. I anticipate it happening in the near future. Not as soon as my getting bit by a snake. We're going to Florida in just a few hours. Wheeeee......

    I used to be very arachnophobic, but mostly now I'm just meh. I've always liked larger, furry looking spiders. They move slower and look enough like mammals that they were cool. Always wanted one as a pet.

    those pics are great, the spiders are beautiful!

    i have a particular hatred for the kind that get into my sheets when i'm on vacation, or hang out in the cabins at biological stations to bite me mercilessly on the hip at night, but really, they leave bumps and itchies and that's all. brown recluses are terrifying to me - knew a guy who got bit five times in the same spot by the same spider when he rolled over on it in the night - massive icky ensued.

    the rose tarantulas in one of the labs in the building where i used to work liked to escape and wander around from time to time. i think they are so lovely.

    @Spoon - Hope Florida was good!

    @Alastair: They could all fit in your hand.....most of them are fairly young. The oldest one in the pictures I have above would be the Salmon Pink Birdeater....the big girl chewin' on a roach.....she's about five. The Indian Ornamental (the one near the egg crates) is probably bigger than your hand, but as far as exact measurements.....I've never been good at just guessing, and that is one spider that I would not even attempt to handle to try. Let's just say she's a big big girl.

    @WaxPoetic: Florida was better than good. It was, in fact, great. And it very much made me hate coming home to Kentucky. It's cold and horrid here, and there's no lovely orange groves or gators roaming around these parts. I hate it here. I love the warmth. I'm like a lizard. I needs heat.
