Ariana, I get the Yahoo alerts and have been seeing Warren's little ads for the episode everywhere so, I went to the site and read it before coming here...and your introduction to it this week nearly made me snarf my coffee. Nice one! You have a lovely sense of humor.
Karl's still my favorite, but Kirk's a neat character. Very nice. Thank you.
I saw that punch coming before I turned the page. Act like a wanker you've got to expect that.
*whew* But what a way to get the caffeine moving through me. I suddenly really like one character and have no sympathy for the other on the ground. My favorite episode so far....
Agreed. The splash page works really well on the intra-webs and their browsers. I wouldn't give Mr. Ellis credit for the invention, but definitely give him high props for being one of the best 'user/creator of content' for the medium. That's the best 'next page' hit to a browser I've made all week...
I love the use of a "new page" as the fight reveal just because it strikes me that the loading of an internet page makes a stronger effect than the turning of a printed page.
i gather my cogent thoughts about almost everything i read on my site so i hope it isn't inappropriate to link to my thoughts on freakangels today comicsphere: friday means freakangels.
there is more stuff on the site on freakangels which you can either search if you're interested or find under the tab. again. apologies if this is in the wrong place.
today i was captivated by the broken supports and falling bricks on Page 6. seriously stopped in my tracks captivated. yay! Kirk doesn't get played by Luke, yay! for awesome punch and blood drops and "rearrange these words into a sentence" and good buildup of interesting characters, not just stereotypes, and I agree about the pacing and development being well-thought out (like I expected less, really). but seriously. those broken bits just got me.
I find myself the need to reread, or rather rewatch the other episodes again. Now that a lot of the main characters are introduced, I'm getting used by the 'tone' of the artist drawings, so I have to relook at everything and asses my opninion. Lemme explain: I'm looking at giveaways of how the characters look and what that spells about their powers and attitude. So after nine episodes, I'm getting used to the art, time to reread it with these new 'glasses'
I like trini_naenae comparison to The Endless for this simple reason: I think the bulk of the characters have the same powers...they use it according to their character. Where does tha leave KK though? There is no stereotype comic/rpg team here: no brawler, healer, slasher, zapper and unkillable roles here. Also no Xavier.
And I admit: I'm looking for the Spider Jeruslam among them.
Luke seems to threaten a lot. The last time we saw him, he threatened to shit in KK's dreams. Now he's threatened Kirk in a couple of ways and Janine as well. I wonder how his track record is on carrying through with his threats.
I'm finally getting the pacing of the series. The first month is down, and we've been introduced to everyone. Ellis, you're in this for the long-haul, aren't you? Every 6 pages is just a few beats, like an old blues recording. I've been so used to the sometimes frenetic pace you put into your other short-form works that I couldn't switch gears in the right way.
From a social perspective, you're not falling into the trap a lot of web comics get stuck in of having to one-up your intensity each week. As one of the A-list writers in the comics field, you don't have to prove anything to anyone, and the confidence shows in the pacing.
