    Bob Clampett worked with the Burroughs family to make a serious treatment of the Mars stories in the spirit of Fleischer's Superman, but studio pressure to make a wacky slapstick cartoon killed the project.

    Which is a bummer, because the footage is kind of amazing.

    Bob would have a showing of this at SDCC every year up until his death. It was never lost.

    It's not you or even Boing-Boing. There's a difference between new and new to you. It is good that you wanted to share this with the people at Whitechapel.

    The Clampetts were incredibly nice. His widow is super nice. When I get home from work — I think I'll watch some "Beany and Cecil" ...
