Just curious but what are your thoughts on this little experimentation thus far compared to the previous boards? It's an entirely different animal and I actually am getting much more involved in the discussions that I did at all the others (which I joined, posted a handful of times, read a bit, but mostly forgot about). I think the format of the front page and intermixing of categories has a lot to do with that.
I pop on when I feel like it, look at the front page, reply to the topics/discussions that interest me, and move on, then repeat the process. Makes it sometimes difficult to follow-up though. But my brain ain't too good sometimes.
I had JUST finally stopped lurking on the Engine and posted the last month of it's life (sad that I was there since the week of launch and problably posted 5 things) so this time I will not waste! More time spent posting ramblings that are only occasionly drunken, instead of just reading them!
I also have never been truly involved in a forum. Yet hear seemed a place I could learn about that which I find most fascinating, which is the truly weird side of humanity. Via hotlinks.
Thanks to Warren and the team - you've made an excellent place to hang out. It really seems so far that everyone here is a grown-up (and I mean that in the best way). Long may this continue.
Excellent, just what I need, another successful experiment for the other side of my consciousness to lure me to in moments of distraction, when I should be involved in propping up our current social system. Thank you Warren.
If nothing else it shows that by actively engaging your audience you can develop a community that is invested in your success. Maybe this is a sign that people have grown tired of simply waging flame wars (checks rest of internet)...uh, maybe not.
Thank god that a writer as established as WE is interested enough in these things to bother to engage us, and by us I mean me.
This place is like the bastard love child of DPH and the ENGINE. Wait, OMG, that makes Ariana the mom and you the dad! I'm very ill right now, I blame the mircobes, and I'm damn happy to be here. I need to take my next set of pills now.
I normally hate forums because they usually center around one common interest and more often than not resort to "UR A FAG!" type comments. But this forum is nice. I can see myself being even more of a regular here.
I'm very happy to be a member here. I've found so many interesting discussions to join inon....whether or not I'm annoying to everyone else, or welcomed, at least I didn't get kicked out or screamed at yet!
Well, now you've done it. There'll be a disagreement in a little while and then the whole thing'll collapse, with factions and warring and strife and pillaging and all sorts of bad things. Damn it.
Three cheers for Whitechapel, it's sexy founders, and all of yourselves! Hip hip! Hoo *notices a new thread and wanders away*
Seriously, I'm glad to be able to lurk around here, it's been enjoyable so far. I never got too involved with the Engine, I think because I started reading it 2 or 3 months before it closed, but I think I'm going to be able to manage to keep a decent presence here.
@Graphicartistx
Your real name isn't Vidar, is it? People named Vidar make me right nervous. Keep an eye out for me, will you?
I'm enjoying it so far, hoping we can keep it bullshit free (exponential increase in difficulty with the addition of more people, but we're doing well).
Warren, I really like these digs. I was always an observer in your other communities-- they could be intimidating to jump into without knowing what you were doing. Getting in on the ground floor and getting to know folks is a lot of fun. Thanks for making this, thanks for requiring the population to be smart, funny and even-tempered, and thanks for maintaining a bunch of crazy fans who fit in those categories.
In one week we've decided to form an opium den, we've discussed our personal fantasies and we've come up with solid concepts to re-invent the entire comics industry-- without collapsing into Newsarama board style shenanigans.
So (we were talking about this elsewhere)-- what do we call ourselves? I vote Chaplers.
