and all of the noms for THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY, an amazing book that seemed to get overlooked because of the "name" creator...seriously, why did 99% of the reviews fixate on what band he was in? this book is good, good shit.
I went to the Eisner's last year at SDCC. Not trying to knock it, but there was NOBODY there in the audience, except for me, some half-awake schlub and the taped off section for nominees. That made me a bit sad, but it was cool to see people like Ed Brubkaer and Paul Pope win their awards as it happened.
holy shit, really?! i assume thats a slight exaggeration (there had to be more than two people there) but i would expect that room to be packed to the gills....
No exaggeration, sir. There was 3 if you could the bartender in the back.
I thought it would have been crowded myself. I only stopped by because I was killing time until dinner. I remember walking up and down the back-center isle gabbing into my cell phone loudly, and a wee bit tipsy. If there had been people to annoy, I certainly would have stepped outside.
Any nomination list that includes Jonathan Hickman's THE NIGHTLY NEWS is not beyond redemption. I also appreciated the props for AYA. But WTF? The new Bryan Talbot graphic novel didn't even rate a nomination for Best Graphic Novel?
"Best Publication for Teens Laika, by Nick Abadzis (First Second)"
There'll be justice in this world if he wins :)
edit: and I think I'd implode if I had to choose in the "Best U.S. Edition of International Material-Japan" category. As long as it's not a Viz title (where's my No5 bitches!?), I'm happy.
I don't think Viz deserve an award for republishing Black & White as one volume to cash in on the movie, in fact I prefer the original publication. Speaking of Viz, the reason that they never continued with No.5 is because it was apparently the least successful thing they ever published - i.e. a complete disaster, it sold less than 1,000 copies in total I'm told, that's both volumes combined. I've been looking for a fan-scan of the rest to no avail.
