    Definitely looks like the style Frank Miller has become. And a conglomeration of comic books, animation, and live action film that seems to be more and more prevalent.

    Well Frank Miller IS a little corny and very testosterony so I guess that was expected. It is totally in the Frank Miller comic style, but why is that a problem? It's his style, just like any other director has a style. I don't think it will be the greatest of films, but it should be a fun hour and a half. He does like his cheesy lines though doesn't he?

    i like the Roof-Fu. At first I thought it was silly, but this really takes me back to when the first heroes I knew about were Green Hornet and stuff like that.

    Frank Miller is a good visual story teller. Dialog can be pretty corny, but he's always been about over the top. That way, even "I'm the god damned batman!" fits, strangely. File under: Popcorn Flick!

    The flipping does look a bit weird though.

    No, but it's based on Frank Miller's version of the comic. It's not like he's raping Eisner's comic without his consent.

    I've never read a single Spirit comic, so I don't have much of an opinion as to the movie's fidelity. But it does look like a Sin City retread. And I'm becoming weary of Miller's overwrought hyper-noir dialogue. Seems like it's all he knows how to write these days.

    I understand that it's his style, but it's not really a Spirit movie at that point. It's just Sin City 2. I'd prefer to see the--no pun intended--spirit and tone of the stories remain, rather than being replaced by a fleeting but popularized style of another person's vision.

    Spider-Man is a great example--it's clearly directed by Raimi, but he retained the feeling of the stories that he was adapting. Whether that's good or bad is up to the viewer, but at least he tried.

    While the voiceover has fuckall to do with the Spirit, the less-than-slick, slightly goofy roof-running is very Eisner/Spirit in feel.

    Well, no its not. However, It is based on the comic that Miller probably views as one of his major inspirations. So he is taking The Spirit through his own compatible artistic lens, a fine old tradition in the arts and arguably the bread and butter of many comics. If Miller can manage his own stylistic issues that boarder on fetish, this his chosen style is quite a good choice.

    A small point - there is a certain bumbling natural movement of the Spirit, a sign he is not a roof ninja, but a human doing the exceptional. Thats a small sign, bit its rather reassuring in the trailer.

    Edit: and Warren beat me on the latter point by about 20 seconds. Hah.

    I'm liking the action, less so the visual tone, but this is, after all, a teaser, so maybe I'll reserve judgment.

    I'm curious to see it for the visuals alone. Seeing Eisner's cityscapes transformed into animated form is pretty appealing.

    The writing?

    Yeah.

    I'm going for the visuals.

    Also, just a note, that's the music from "The Untouchables" playing. Gives you a sense of the inspiration perhaps. DePalma's grotesque of a 50's tv show.
