@ collindeplancy I work part-time at the classical department of a record store (HMV) and the harmonia mundi releases we stock aren't expensive at all. Most of them, like the Missa Mexicana cost around £6 usually.
Treponem Pal - "Weird Machine" Yeah, they sound pretty anachronistic these days, but I still like the strange combination of Industrial Metal and funky/psychedelic 70ies-Vibes done by these weird french guys. Plus: It features Ted Parsons (Swans, Prong, Killing Joke, Godflesh, Jesu, ...) and Paul Raven R.I.P. (Killing Joke, Ministry, ...), which is reason enough to like it.
Testament - "The Formation Of Damnation" Hell fuckin' yeah, music with testicles! That's how I like it - probably the betst album in the category of "pure Metal" 2008.
@ DJ Dead Billy I love that album. The Gun Club were such a damn underrated band.
Graham Parker - Discovering Japan The Go-Betweens - Streets of Your Town The Hold Steady - You Gotta Dance with who you came to the Dance with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - More News from Nowhere Divine Comedy - Absent Friends Marc Almond - I Close my Eyes and count to Ten
FUNERAL DINER-the underdark 12" (cali indie rock. and yes, the drummer confirmed to me on sunday that is referencing THAT underdark, nerds.) BAADER BRAINS-complete works of the young tigers PLEASE INFORM THE CAPTAIN THIS IS A HIJACK-s/t 12" (both are weeeeeiiiiirdly political upbeat rockin punk. fun is a word that comes to mind) SCHOLASTIC DETH-discography (40+ songs of fast as fuck bookstorecore) MIKA MIKO 666 12" (snotty LA girl punk!)
one of my favorite bands ever. if you haven't seen it yet, check out the gun club documentary "Ghost on the Highway". it's pretty good. jeffrey lee pierce's book "go tell the mountain" is a great insight into his addictions, song writing, and his generally all around good taste.
I haven't seen it, but I'm going to try and get my hands on it. In the same musical vein, I did get to see a screening of the X movie last year, and it was pretty great.
At my country (Brazil), the prices of Harmonia Mundi releases are, usually, very high. At FNAC store in São Paulo, for example, there are two great Harmonia Mundi CDs: "Selva morale e spirituale" by Monteverdi and "Il primo omicidio overo Cain" by A. Scarlatti. The first one`s price: (converting currency from R$) more or less US$ 120,00; the second: US$ 140,00.
This may be a little different from what has been posted here, but an old friend I grew up with has an album out, The John Ginty Band, Fireside Live. Anyone from New Jersey may recognize the Fireside in Denville. Anyway, some real high energy gospel blues. Reminiscent of the Allman Brothers in their heyday. John plays the Hammond organ like there is no tomorrow. Here they are doing Savor...although it does take about 1:05 to really get moving, and, unfortunately, it isn't one of their many gospel originals
The Golden Palominos (band name) Album, Dead Inside, Track The Ambitions are, Although the whole album is amazing. Also did an very deep early morning listening of William Burroughs and kurt cobain doing "the prist they called him".
I just loaded a buck of my Golden Palominos stuff onto my computer, after not having listened to them for years, and I was struck how different and exciting each of the albums are. Dead Inside is definitely a favorite.
So far: The new Diamanda Galas, Guilty Guilty Guilty on repeat for most of the morning. Great stuff as usual. followed by: Tom Waits - Real Gone and up next: Marc Almond - Open All Night

@Agitpunk - I've always loved the first Golden Palominos album, with Arto Lindsey, Fred Frith an a pack of Downtown New York skronkmeisters making a glorious wacky noise (before they took a stab at various "pop" flavors). At the other end of their spectrum, "This Is How It Feels" remains a favorite.
