According to my local comic shop, they've not been able to get a single copy of Transmetropolitan Vol. 2 from Diamond for the past 8 months or so - I ended up borrowing the managers copy to read! I don't know where the problem lies but I would've thought Diamond could've sorted it out within 8 months!
Bit of pointless drivel but I thought someone might find interest in it...
Diamond has hiccups like this pretty often. We ordered the Brubaker Cap Omnibus for someone more than a month ago, and it never came. Eventually, my boss personally called Dave Hawksworth and he said they had it in stock and that the order hadn't been filled because...no reason. We're expecting the book this week or next.
We had trouble with Transmet 2 before as well, where it literally was out of print for the better part of a year. I don't know why or how, but DC was not printing the book. Eventually we got them, and plenty because we had reordered several times in the meantime.
lol, obviously, they currently have it on Amazon.co.uk but I like to help support local shops and, considering the distinct lack of comic shops in my area without having to trek up to the big smoke that is London, I wanted to get it from my local comic store...
Anyone can get it from Amazon, we can buy what we want from wherever we want, but I thought i'd highlight the fact that Diamond have been having a problem supplying it just to see if i'd been the only one to encounter this or something similar from Diamond...
@phil.lunt: I knew you had to know about Amazon...I just wanted to know why you were so determined not to got there. To me, the local shop is not always God.
Zombinoid, don't be a sonofabitch :P. My comic book store is dying pretty quickly right now and alot of it has to do with Amazon and the other big book corps...sigh
We arent' god, but we are generally families trying to supply a kick ass store and make a living doing something we absolutely love...
I haven't been able to get Transmet 2 either...kinda confused as to what happened to them. I've got almost a full run of trades at the shop but no one's going to start a new series unless I gots vol 2...sigh I say...
I'm surprised Warren's not chipped in, but it's currently out of print at DC (and Titan), nothing to do with Diamond, waiting for a new edition which will collect books one and two together. That said, with DC's new HC policy of collecting longer series into larger omnibi, that may well happen here. I would imagine if you ordered it from Amazon, they'd faff about for a few months and then say they can't get it, so I'd advise trying Amazon marketplace or Ebay.
<strong>@Zombinoid</strong> <blockquote>To me, the local shop is not always God.</blockquote>
<strong>Pooka</strong> is right: <blockquote>We arent' god, but we are generally families trying to supply a kick ass store and make a living doing something we absolutely love...</blockquote> If you want to be poetic about it, gods are forgotten and die from lack of worship.
In all seriousness, I don't think this is the right board to say, "well, fuck comic stores if they can't get Diamond to listen to them". Maybe there's a <strong><em>Wal-Mart, Amazon and Target are teh WIN</em></strong> message board for that.
I've had my own problems with Amazon canceling or delaying shipdates on UK books and other items I ordered, then never received. There's also the fact Amazon are cheap bastards when it comes to shipping an item. Books are essentially wrapped in a single layer of cardboard then shipped to your door, encountering countless situations of being dropped and dented along the way.
The majority of books I've received from Amazon have looked like shit by the time I opened them.
I'd much prefer to pick up the book at a local shop where they treat their product with a certain amount of respect.

<em>Edited to add:</em> <strong>@Midweeker</strong> <blockquote>it's currently out of print at DC (and Titan), nothing to do with Diamond, waiting for a new edition which will collect books one and two together.</blockquote> Regarding editions and volumes, Warren has chimed in on the issue previously (<a href="http://freakangels.com/whitechapel/comments.php?DiscussionID=498&Focus=37089#Comment_37089">see other threads</a>).
Just to add another point - if it wasn't for my local comic store manager knowing the kinds of books I read and the writers I like, and liking to point folk in the direction of other/similar authors etc, then I wouldn't even have bloody read any of Warren Ellis' stuff! Just a little more "human" than "other customers bought these as well....."
