I've been itching for a Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip album, and now it's out there in the wilds of the internet. It's called Angles, and it's okay. It's patchy and a bit too preachy for my liking, sadly. Flashes of brilliance, enough for it to hold my interest, but ultimately not as good as it should've been.

Absolutely loving the new Why? album, Alopeica, right now.

http://ks.muxtape.com/ is keeping me warm this lunchtime.

 So far this week:
Bomb the Music Industry! - Punk-synth-ska-hardcore, catchy, anthemic and great lyrics. All there is stuff is free online at BTMI!
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Great punky indie-rock. Saw them on the 20th and they were incredible, the studio versions don't even compare.
Less Than Jake - Typical ska-punk. I haven't listend to this band in years and they popped up on shuffle the other day and I realised that Borders & Boundaries is a really solid album.
Shannon Murray - Sweet-voiced folky stuff. All her stuff is online for free at Riot Folk
The Clash - It's The Clash.
Boris the Sprinkler - Vaguely demented 90s pop-punk with songs about absolutely nothing.

Flight Of The Conchords . I'm looking forward to the album, which I think comes out in a fortnight.

It's worth the wait. I picked it up in the US on iTunes, and it's a perfect encapsulation of the first season of the HBO series. Strangely, my only quibble is that they did such a great job of matching the parody songs with visuals that I miss "seeing" the songs. Find a way to purchase the DVD of the first season to see the nearly frame by frame reconstruction of the Pet Shop Boy's "West End Girls" video and song as "Inner City Pressure". Or you can just watch it here:
INNER CITY PRESSURE
WEST END GIRLS

 Dustar-3, Pants not Best

I've had this sudden surge of interest in non-English artists and songs but not sure why. Maybe it's because I play music but don't write lyrics, though it may be it's something deeper. I was watching an interview with Mike Patton talking about the lack of lyrics in the Fantomas records and he brought up a very valid point; You can't have lyrics without having some sort of agenda.

Whatever the case, there's a lot of fantastic music that's really hard to find or be introduced to simply because the American market shuns it.

 listening to a lot of New Model Army today
here are some lyrics, hope you enjoy.
~~~~~~~
HERE COMES THE WAR.
Today, as you listen to this song
Another 394,000 children were born into this world
They break like waves of hunger and desire upon these eroded shores
Carrying the curses of history and a history yet unwritten
The oil burns in thick black columns, the buzz saws echo through the forest floor
They shout give us our fair share, give us justice
Here comes the war
On a grey morning to the south of here
Two young men in makeshift uniforms peer into the misty light
And figures dart behind the trees
As a snap of rifle rounds echoes out across the fields
They hardly know their sacred mother tongue but they recognize their duty
To defend the flag hanging limp and bloody above the village church
While a thousand miles away, in a warehouse complex down by the river,
Young money men play paintball games
Here comes the war
Put out the lights on the Age of Reason
So blow out the candle and tell us another of those great stories,
the ones about serial killers. Let dreams flow into savage times.
Do you hear the sirens scream across the city?
We've had three hot nights in succession - the riot season is here again
Dear Lord, lead us back into the Valley of the Shadow of Death,
Here comes the war.
Did you think we were born in peaceful times?
Faster, faster, like a whirling dervish spinning round
Faster, faster, until the Centre cannot Hold
You screamed give us Liberty or give us Death
Now you've got both, what do you want next ?
Here comes the war
Put out the lights on the Age of Reason.
 I got an advance copy of The Bug's new LP London Zoo on Ninja Tune, it is absolutely immense - Ricky Ranking on fine fire and fury form, plus the usual impeccable dancehall / grime stuff from Warrior Queen and Flowdan. The Hour of Slack for breakfast, then classical, or Death Metal, or Gogol Bordello, or Kaizers Orchestra depending on writing mood.
Or maybe I'll go back and find more stuff I listened to ten years ago.
 @robb: it's coming on Ninja Tune in June. It's got the singles (Skeng, Jah War, Ganja, Posion Dart) but the highlights for me are the righteous fire and fury of Ricky Ranking's contributions. New single features Tippa Irie on 'Angry' - totally awesome.
 The new Pendulum album is just wonderful.
I can't say it's massively groundbreaking, and it's certainly a far more poppy album than the Burial one, but it hits all the right notes as a dance album, whilst every track works independently as an actual song, rather than an assembled collection of beats and bleeps. It's also a far more heavily vocal album than the first one.
The opening to Granite sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.
