i dig the new Portishead, though some of it sounds exactly like The Silver Apples. i suppose that's kind of cool, but i miss their innovative years when they just sounded like Portishead.
Probot - Probot : Such a good album. Of all the things Dave Grohl has done, this should be his legacy. It's him stating "I am fanboy" The Doors - Best of : Thankfully.
@norton a throbbing gristle week? man...feel better soon ; ) i think hearing hamburger lady and subhuman back to back would be enough for my weekly TG quotient.
listening to a lot of New Model Army today here are some lyrics, hope you enjoy. ~~~~~~~
HERE COMES THE WAR.
Today, as you listen to this song Another 394,000 children were born into this world They break like waves of hunger and desire upon these eroded shores Carrying the curses of history and a history yet unwritten The oil burns in thick black columns, the buzz saws echo through the forest floor They shout give us our fair share, give us justice Here comes the war
On a grey morning to the south of here Two young men in makeshift uniforms peer into the misty light And figures dart behind the trees As a snap of rifle rounds echoes out across the fields They hardly know their sacred mother tongue but they recognize their duty To defend the flag hanging limp and bloody above the village church While a thousand miles away, in a warehouse complex down by the river, Young money men play paintball games Here comes the war
Put out the lights on the Age of Reason
So blow out the candle and tell us another of those great stories, the ones about serial killers. Let dreams flow into savage times. Do you hear the sirens scream across the city? We've had three hot nights in succession - the riot season is here again Dear Lord, lead us back into the Valley of the Shadow of Death, Here comes the war.
Did you think we were born in peaceful times?
Faster, faster, like a whirling dervish spinning round Faster, faster, until the Centre cannot Hold You screamed give us Liberty or give us Death Now you've got both, what do you want next ? Here comes the war
I got an advance copy of The Bug's new LP London Zoo on Ninja Tune, it is absolutely immense - Ricky Ranking on fine fire and fury form, plus the usual impeccable dancehall / grime stuff from Warrior Queen and Flowdan. Interestingly the PR sheet mentioned the Marcus Garvey tug at the end of Neuromamcer: this is definitely an album of futuristic / apocalyptic chamber dub. Anyone who heard Jah War / Skeng will know what I'm on about.
Also digging the new Daedelus stuff (Ninja Tune strikes again) - you can download the new single Hrs: Mins: Secs at www.daedelusmusic.com
There's aninterview with Daedelus on my site, Weaponizer
Having a @Fuck off and don't speak to me because I have my fucking HEADPHONES ON YOU TEENYBOPPER 'tard' so its stuff that sounds good on headphones:
Bedlam in Goliath (still). It sounds different every day. Ghosts (also listened to it loads) The Crystal Castles debut. It drives me mad with its Shoreditch is cool type duo, but the music is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Sister Ray (Velvet Underground). I could listen to this over and over and over M83- Saturday=Youth, mainly for the first track. Dark Side of the Moon and Dub Side of the Moon. (Because, sometimes you want the sound of bong hits instead of cash registers)
finally able to listen to elvis costello's "momofuku". so far, sounding a little like "delivery man" part 2. i think i'll have to warm up to this one. @hmobius: my boyfriend got the ashes divide cd. not being really into a perfect circle, i wasn't expecting to like it, but it's pretty cool.
Clock DVA, - 80s industrial, Tim Hecker, - sometimes people I play my tunes to tell me to check him out, so I did. Pretty good, not that similar though... KTL, - a sunn0)) spin off Velvet Cacoon, - ambientish-black metal band who spread a lot of lies about themselves. Alamaailman Vasarat, - kind of Kletzmer-rock-something... Sonic Youth, - bought SYR1 (Anagrama) & 4 (Goodbye 20th Century!) both pretty good Boris, - I bought smile, quite like it so far but still forming an opinion on this...
Watching Iron Man (and this isn't the thread to discuss it further, but holy fucking god yes yes yes) has gotten me in a classic metal mood. AC/DC, Sabbath... See, those guys knew how to construct a ball-rocking guitar riff.
* New Portishead; interesting but not jawdropping like all my friends said it would be. Loved it on first lsiten, now not as much. * Hercules & Love Affair; Really ghey, but somehow addictive. * Manic Street Preachers - Umbrella; cover of Rihanna. I don't know why I like this, but that Umbrella sure is a catchy tune. * NIN - Discipline; Freeeeee * Keren Ann - Lay Your Head Down; She has the perfect hybrid voice of Karen Carpenter and Joni Mitchel. * Plaid - Double Figure; oldie * Atomic Hooligan - Sex Drugs and Blah blah Blah * Does it Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into...; s'okay, but seriously, fuck New Rave. * Underworld - Oblivion with Bells [2007] ; Didn't get a chance to delve into this in 07. * HrvÄtski - Swarm and Dither [2002]; This is awesome. * New The Breeders; Really?
