    We'd explain this thing, but we're really having trouble taking our eyes off of it long enough to string some full sentences together. Suffice it to say Festo's AirJelly is powered by some magical jelly fish properties, a lithium-ion battery, an electric motor and a bit of helium. If that's not floaty enough for you, there's also a water version, AquaJelly.

    AAAHHHHH! Flying squid! We are so very doomed.

    Ok, that's the most eerily life-like motion from a machine I've seen yet.

    While the jellies are very pretty, their motion is a little too regular to totally freak me out. The ray is somewhat better. Still, when I think "eerily life-like motion from a machine", I think this:

    Seriously, when that thing slips and catches itself on the icy pavement, it completely skips over the uncanny valley and moves straight to "Oh my god that poor headless dog" land.

    I want one of those dogs to ride to work, but I want about a hundred of those jellies just for the "ooh".

    I'd release them downtown.

    It'd be worth the fines.

    I no longer want a jet pack.

    I want an air jelly I can ride in.

    Beautiful. I'll have a dozen of each just for the hell of it!

    Not much use in a gale... but very pretty. I'd love a few of these floating round the house - maybe with lights in them... that'd be cool.

    Why do I feel the desire to kidnap Patrick McGowan, dump him in a surreal Welsh village and sic a bunch of these on him?

    The Bigdog screams Half Life 2 at me.

    Bigdog has it's own thread.

    I find these robots more creepy than bigdog because they look so innocent, so delicate. Until they kill you.

    I like the idea of having thousands of them and letting them drift over a city with no explanation.

    Oh the panic that would ensue. Tinfoil would fly off the shelves in record amounts!

    @williac

    I like it. Only, I would make sure that there were several conflicting explanations. Maybe they're alien craft, maybe they're full of deadly gases, maybe they're a government experiment gone awry. Let the masses decide.
