    Chilling, having tea...on a mountain

"Drawing from hammocks, cots, tents and sail construction, a generation of climber-designers invented a new typology: the portaledge."

Seems very fascinating, of course the blog post talks about the implications this could have on dwellings, like: building a 20 story tall, i-beam open structure that people could then come in and inhabit it, paying only rent on the space that they take up...

It's pretty fascinating - and there are more photos.

*I feel like I should say, that I've never climbed a mountain higher than the hill in my back yard and doubt that one of these could hold me girth...But, it's really, really cool.*

This is very cool. But it begs the joke about people rolling over in their sleep. I like to move around a bit while I sleep, and I'd like the dream about falling to be less than a second long. "I dreamed I was falling for like 5 minutes... and I never woke up. Damn you mountain hammock!"

Yeah, in the link they show that there are tents, that I would assume people would use more for sleeping than the above "floating picnic blanket". It would just be the remembering in the morning and not stepping out of the tent...
