As DMZ is one of my current favourites I had high hopes for this title, and Wood doesn't disappoint. Engaging characters, witty dialogue, and blood, oh yes there will be blood. The art is in the style I like - sharp edges and bursting colour, although I worry about my brain...the entire time I was reading I kept wondering what it would look like as a movie, or, horrors, a video game.
I have no experience with the previous books in this series, but picked it up on the strength of Ashley Wood's art alone. His work on Tank Girl has been a surprising must buy for me. IDW is publishing the best produced comics out there, IMHO - Templesmith's Wormwood is a work of art for the quality of the physical book alone. Thick covers, excellent colours.
I picked up Northlanders as well. Sort of as a replacement for Y: The Last Man so that my budget evens out. I thought the art seemed a little choppy, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. The story seems solid so far. I have high hopes for this one. Do you know if is going to run a certain time length or open-ending?
