Wanted to pimp this as an awesome book recommended for just about anyone, anytime.
I think it's lauded as the first disaster book. Much better written than Frankenstein, IMO, though Frankenstein had that sort of youthful verve, angst, and edge that makes early writings so awesome despite their flaws.
Anyway, The Last Man is better written, though definitely very 19th century. And in a world where writers great and good have trouble really nailing the endings, I think she nails it. It's just brilliant.
