It's taken me a decade to find a truly 'metal' band with the right balance in their mix. Don't tell me either of us is alone...un-metal as that may sound.

They're pretty notable for the fact that two of the three members of the band live in a self-sustained farming community in Washington.

They're hardcore environmentalists, which is pretty refreshing in black metal. Actually, any ideology in Black Metal outside of nihilism, fascism or misanthropy is pretty fucking refreshing.

True. That's in fact what I really like about this band. But their music doesn't really blow me away.

"...and other black/doom metal bands worth listening into?"

Recent ones, outside of the usual suspects?

Alcest and Ameseurs are great, mixing bm, folk, shoegaze and post rock pretty well.

I haven't followed the genre recently as much as I used to, anything else I'd recommend would be like 5 or 6 years old at least.

Drudkh, The Shining...and of course Bathory's "Blood, fire, death" which is the genesis of all black/doom.
