The British Government has voted to allow the creation of cytoplasmic hybrid (cybrid) embryos.

This means that animal eggs will be scrubbed of their DNA, and human DNA inserted and turned into an embryo which is 99.9% human; this is for the purpose of researching human illnesses such as Parkinsons disease, and other such horrible afflictions.

The embryos can only be kept for 14 days before being destroyed.

Ultimately, I'm all in favour - work in this area is a vital step if we want to continue valuable embryonic research, as it allows research despite the short supply of human eggs.

I love the politicians' arguments involving the points "We don't know if this is useful!" and "We don't know if this is dangerous!" As to the first point, isn't it obvious doing the research will tell us if (more accurately why) this is useful? For the second, isn't that fear really just the superstition that God's going to see us dicking around with his toolset and storm down from Heaven to smite us? Thank God Britain's government is far better than mine at ignoring the insane voices trying to impede genuinely important scientific research.

Wait until the humanimals start asking to marry your daughter. Then you'll be sorry.

Although having hybrid cheetah grandkids might be neat. They could get rid of the damn squirrels in the yard.
