			<![CDATA[ The original proposal for a cheap computer for third world schools has been a bit of a bust - 600,000 units sold is nothing to sneer at but the target by now was 100 million.<br /><br />But the <a href="http://www.technologyreview.com/Infotech/20804/page1/" >next version</a> looks really interesting.<br /><br />First off, they're shooting for a price of $75 per unit - but then the current XO model's price blew out from $100 to $175.<br /><br />Anyway, the new machine reduces power consumption even further, replaces the key pad with touch screens and can be used in various innovative ways - as an e-book reader or with the dual touch screens being used by children to play games against each other. <br /><br />Originally there was talk of selling the XO in the developed world to offset some of the cost, I don;t know if that ever eventuated but I'd be tempted to pick up one of the new machines. ]]>
