I'm ruining people's productivity with this over on Panel & Pixel, and I thought I'd share it here too.
TV Tropes is a wiki of commonly-used story, plot, genre, and character elements found all over fiction (not just on television). It's heavily cross-referenced, and an incredible resource for us writers. The problem is that it's also extremely funny, and very very distracting -- how do you stay focused on what you're trying to legitimately research when you're stumbling on links to things named You Fail Biology Forever, Lowest Cosmic Denominator and Somewhere a Paleontologist is Crying?
Oh god this ruins any chance of me ever finding a job... Dead on you! A thousand deaths of inadvertent comedy.
This one immediately caught my eye, as it's something that my boyfriend and I alternately cite at each other :MST 3k Mantra. "It's just a show, I should really relax."
Usually restated as "Stop overthinking it. You're ruining the movie."
