    Hoody gasmasks
    The latest incarnation of the hooded top, called a goggle jacket, appears to have more in common with a gas mask than designer wear, leaving just small plastic discs for users to see through.

    People can only see this for the evil of intimidating people. Me - I'd wear one to strike fear into the hearts of criminals.

    The youth of today - cover their faces but expose their arses with 'lo-riders', who can understand them?

    I'm looking forward to seeing this turn up around my part of town, something else to laugh at.

    Any guesses as to how long it'll be before they're banned for 'public safety' (i.e. 'your face is not visible on CCTV') reasons?

    They won't do that - the simple reason being that they would then have to justify not banning the full length Muslim wear. Although it would be fun to see the kids wearing burqas to get around any ban...

    They trialled the facial recognition cameras on my patch the result being that they just didn't work. So until they get that working there is little need to have any legislation to keep people's faces open.

    The failings of 'normal' CCTV are bad enough, you can't recognise faces on 90% of cases.

    (Also in the article a copper mentions that a scarf and glasses hide identity just as well).

    it will most likely be business-wide first, like "no shoes no service" or "take your mask off during halloween so we don't think you're going to rob our store at gunpoint", then district-wide like in new york where you can get arrested at a protest for hiding your face. you can watch rosario dawson get busted for just thing while acting in "This Revolution"'s extras. generally that kind of law is local, not national.

    Hah, now, I'd wear that just for the 40s nostalgia of it all. Strangely enough, round my way no-one's wearing these yet. And, really, it's the sort of place you'd expect them to. Every other day we get a new Metpol "A SERIOUS ASSAULT HAS HAPPENED HERE" notice stuck up somewhere. Methinks the Metro doth sensationalise too much? Or maybe I'm wrong.. well, Londoners (hell, for that matter, World), have any of you seen these around?

    Incidentally, am I the only one reminded of this?

    Those look kinda dope. I'd totally wear one.

    Then again, I already have four "real" gas masks, ranging from a pale blue fetish piece to an authentic Soviet-era mask to the two US-military issued ones I use sometimes when, um...*playing*.

    Was I the only one who got a little bit of wood when I first saw King Mob? I think not. Though I may the first one who actively sought out a gas mask because of it.

    To get a good Motorcycle gang going we'd have to adapt it to mesh with a good helmet. Maybe integrate the hoodie/goggle bit with a nice street legal helmet... oh yeah and add street protection armor to the jacket somehow... maybe some actual armor to protect us from rival gangs....

    Well, I have seen some people whose overall appearance would be improved by wearing those, but even without effective face regognition software hiding your face from security cameras will always rise eyebrows and draw the attention of the low on you.

    The biggest risk of course is walking into a corner store only to have the jittery, emotionally scarred, just-trying-to-make-an-honest-living-but-has-been-robbed-five times-this-month-alone, clerk blow your head off with a shotgun before you make it to the Cheesy Puffs!

    There has never been a better time to be a wannabee super hero/villain than now.
    I have a very similar jacket to that one (a black Icon Merc with some kevlar added)and a cool Carbon Fibre Helmet.

    Actual knives and guns make a comic so much better than fake lazers.

    While it is unfortunately horrifically tacky it does spray pepper spray (or fear gas or neat compound you worked up) in your enemies face.
    Plus that will teach the babysitter for trying on your jewellery.
