So Warren tagged me in to share his meme-disease, but it's one of those chain-letter things that'll bring me seven years of bad luck or make my hair fall out or have my house be invaded by hedgehogs if I don't pass it on to at least seven more people.

So I figured, hell, there's at least seven people here, and I'll bet seven of you have music, or we wouldn't manage a weekly listening thread, would we? In other words, ha ha, Whitechapel -- Tag, you're it:

"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to."

I'll spare you my clumsy write-ups, but mine are:

“They Do Not Come Knocking There Anymore” - Natural Snow Buildings
    “Momentary Drowning” - Young Coyotes
    “Black Cat” - Ladytron
“Dance Dance Dance” - Lykke Li
“Heels on Fire” - Sargasso Trio
“The Beat That My Heart Skipped” - Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip
“Take this Waltz” - Leonard Cohen

Post yours here, or on your own blog with a link out -- whichever you'd like. No need to stop when there's seven of you -- I figure if less than seven is bad, more must be good, right? Also feel free to tag other folks in the forum if they haven't responded, because a friendly disease is a controlled disease.

Another gap in posting, but after following this vicious little meme from Warren's website I had to post. :)

    • I'll start with the mashup of an SL friend of mine (Miss Cyberpink) available here called "Strangeword." It's a mash of Depeche Mode's Strangelove with Cameo's Word Up. It gets stuck in the brain.

    • Second is "Stretched Across Your Grave," a cover of the Sinead O'Connor song by Abney Park (off of their newest Lost Horizons). Also, their song "Airship Pirates" off the same CD has to get a nod as well, if only because it is what caused me to launch my latest RPG campaign.

    • For personal reasons the song "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star has become imprinted once again on my psyche, due to an upcoming trip to meet someone again for the first time. (It's an internet thing)

    • Another mashup that I keep listening to is some new from Go Home Productions called "Rolling Confusion." It combines a live cut of the Rolling Stones with The Temptations original version of "Ball of Confusion." I want to keep playing it over and over.

    • "Machine Gun" from Portishead's Three. Love the new CD but for some reason that one keeps coming back to me, and I keep going back to it.

    • And last (but not least) Lisa Germano's haunting track "A Beautiful Schizophrenic." I've loved her stuff since I was a kid (and she was an unsigned local musician) and for me this track (and it's CD) is the culmination of her work. Haunting and beautiful and it give me an ache.

King Sunny Ade & His African Beats -- Ja Funmi
Luverly Afrobeat. Reminds me of the darker tracks from Paul Simon's Rhythm Of The Saints album.

David Bowie -- Life On Mars
Been watching the show via BitTorrent, and it's made me want to listen to the song a lot.

Arthur Russell -- This Is How We Walk On The Moon
Found this via Mike Doughty's blog, and can't stop thinking about the cello loop.

    Joe Pug -- Hymm #101
Found via the Hype Machine. Amazing Dylan / David Grey-style acoustic folk.

Violent Femmes -- To The Kill
    I ain't no Kid Chicago...I ain't no AL CAPONE!

Jamie Lidell -- Little Bit Of Feel Good
I don't normally like this kind of pop-soul, but this is infectious.

Red State Soundsystem -- Ghosts In A Burning City
Okay, this is actually my own song that I'm in the middle of writing/recording, but I can't get it out of my head. I dumped on my iPod so I could come up with lyrics, and I find myself humming the bassline all the time. Infectious in a different way, I think.

Andrew Jackson Jihad - People II: The Reckoning

its too bad we live so far apart, i would bet you and i could have a blast in phoenix. AJJ plays art galleries and coffee houses constantly...

for me, these are some constants of the past few weeks (some are of the past six months)

THE RINGERS- "dialtones" (clash-esque, one of the closest things to a perfect song ive heard in a looooong time)
PANIC AT THE DISCO-"that green gentleman" (best track on the new record. listen to it before you hate on me, haha!)
FUCKED UP-"litany" (gruff canadians channeling negative approach)_
ORCHID-"destination blood" (their quintessential song, once youve heard this you will know whether or not to listen to anything else by them)
    BLOWBACK-"one words" (japanese hardcore!)
THE BAYONETTES- "we're doomed" (powerpop action!)
DEAR LANDLORD- "3 to the beach" (poppunk soundtrack to last summer that i have thrown back into the mix for this summer)
