George Orwell is one of my favorite writers.

One of my faovrite books ig "George Orwell: Selected Writings" edited by one George Bott.

Mr. Bott's introductory essay on George Orwell is pretty good but contains one paragraph that always makes me grin.

The publication of Animal Farm was not only Orwell's first financial success; it was his first contact with a wide popular audience. This fame was repeated when the posthumous television production of 1984 make George Orwell's name temporarily as familiar as that of George Harding or Wilfred Pickles."

The essay probably dates from 1958. If so I have to wonder if when it was reprinted (my edition was from 1968) Mr. Bott could see the irony.

Until I looked him up on Wikipedia after reading that paragraph I'd never heard of Wilfred Pickles.
