I really enjoyed this flick. Monster was cool, some amazing camera tricks, and some great directorial flourishes. I didn't really look at the viral stuff all that much, but a well made, suspenseful, and in places, surprisingly sweet (and not in a "Oh-my-god-I-just-threw-up-on-Renee-Zellweger" kind of way) movie.
i had so much fun with watching this movie. I was a little bored by the love story thing, but once the monster showed up I was really happy...okay...I'm not very sentimental. :P My absolute favorite part was when they were being attacked by the little monsters and they made this sound when they attacked that sounded a hell of alot like the little chittery sound Frenzy made in Transformers. I was laughing my ass off while people were being butchered and everyone looked at me funny.... I also loved the big monster's design. He deffinately had alot of character. :)
Yeah, I definitely enjoyed this flick. I got pretty into the hype -- but not super into it, like some. I wasn't blown away by it like I wanted to be, nor was it anywhere as mystifying as the trailers and the marketing, which was 90% of the fun for me. I think I was more in love and captivated by the idea and premise of the film than I was with the film its self.
Oh, well. Maybe the DVD will have some cool features.
I'm bumping this back because I've finally had a chance to see it (My MIL passed away last week and this is the first thing I've been able to do to get my mind off it) and really enjoyed it. It totally reminded me of an older monster movie but with better effects and characters. Surprisingly I actually got a bit nauseous because of the camera work, which is odd because I never get motion sickness, and it diminish my enjoyment of it one bit. I hope the sequel will be as good, but with steady camera work, or if the story calls for more shaky cam I'll be cool with it.
I'm interested in knowing what the bite from the miniature spider/sea louse looking things really do? Was it an Alien-like monster gestating inside of Marlena?
Running the risk of shameless self-promotion, here's a link to a fairly comprehensive article regarding a lot of the undisclosed elements seeded throughout Cloverfield.
