			<![CDATA[I've been trawling forums for two days now - can someone either tell me (in a fairly non-techhead way):<br />a) How to split a 36.4Gb harddrive into 16.8Gb and 19.6Gb partitions using Windows Disk Management.<br />or<br />b) How to do the same thing during the 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) Ubuntu installation process.<br /><br />Thank you very very much to anyone who can tell me how to do this.<br /><br />Basically, I want a small section of my harddrive left as it is to play games on, since most of my games aren't technically supported by WINE. Hence the 16.8 section - that's how full it is now, sans all non-essentials. I want the other partition to use for Ubuntu-stuff, since having tested it with the LiveCD launch, its programs are much more suited to my needs.]]>

			only way Windows Disk Management will be able to split the drive into 2 partitions is if you run Vista

otherwise, as long as you have around 20Gb of free space on the existing drive, use GParted. ...

			<![CDATA[only way Windows Disk Management will be able to split the drive into 2 partitions is if you run Vista<br /><br />otherwise, as long as you have around 20Gb of free space on the existing drive, use GParted. it's an open source equivalent of Partition Magic in the form of a bootable linux ISO. just download, burn and boot from disk; plus its graphical interface looks the same as Windows Disk Management anyway so it's pretty straight forward<br /><br />http://gparted.sourceforge.net/]]>

The windows install CD will let you define any partitions you want at that point. I've not used GParted but you might also look at 'The Ultimate Windows Boot CD'. I think I'm right in saying that that has some repartitioning magic on it a la Partition Magic as well.]]>
