Are you attending any music festivals this Summer? At times I feel too old for festivals but still I'm going to attend atleast these two... And who says you have to still sleep in a tent? What about you?
All Points West here in New York in August. A whole ton of great artists in the shadow of the statue of liberty (literally). And with any luck, I'll be able to score free tickets thanks to this girl's godfather being the head of the island the festival's hosted on.
Kinda sad that I'm going to miss ACL (Just visited the site. Oh god, Robert Plant is starting to look like Ron Pearlman from Beauty and the Beast.) for the first time in 4 years, now that we've moved away from Austin. Gotta see if there's anything going on in the Denver/Boulder area this year.
I'm going to Øyafestivalen in August, which should be a blast, looking at the performing artists - Sonic Youth, Iron and Wine, Sigur Ros, Sunn O))), Isis, The National and Okkervil River, among others. Okkervil River in particular should be good, Will Sheff is probably one of the best songwriters to emerge in a long time.
I gave up on festivals because I’ve never been to one on a day that was cooler than 95 degrees (Fahrenheit). If I ever move somewhere with tolerable summers I might start going again.
I'll probably hit Flow as well, the electro lineup is glorious. I don't think I can scrounge up enough of a budget for anything else this year, and tent accomodations do not tempt me. Flow is located about 500 meters from my apartment, so that's convenient!
nothing much has interested me this summer, besides Roadburn, and i'm too busy planning and paying for a wedding to be ableto do that this year.
the best festivals, EVER, are always the ATP festivals. the one in december is going to be unbelievable, as mike patton and the melvins are curating...
wish i could go to DUDE FEST! its this weekend in indiana, and its easily the best 50 dollars i could spend all month:fridays highlights include: Torche,The Red Chord,Coliseum, Nachtmystium,Transistor/Transistor,Racebannon,Plague Bringer, Minsk and the_network.
but saturday is the killer:Pig Destroyer. Despise You,Insect Warfare (last official show ever is the word on that, may be "secret" shows afterwards), Hewhocorrupts, Phoenix Bodies, Lords, Gaza, The Dream is Dead, Get Rad,Shitstorm, Weekend Nachos, Worldeater, Mouth of the Architect, Sweet Cobra, Suicide Note, and Howl
and sunday makes sure you cant go home early because graf orlock, kylesa and iron lung are playing, along with KUNG FU RICK (!!!) playting probably their only show of 2008. goddamit. and this isnt counting all of the house shows inevitably happening in the same neighborhoods, after parties, impromptu reunion/ cover sets and endless booze that always surrounds DIY fests. plus, itll only be like 600 kids tops, so its not some big ridiculous thing where you get sunburned and die from over exposure to hippie retards or bleach tipped bros/ fake boobed skanks. fuuuuuuck im pissed.
when they announce the line up for FUCK YEAH FEST, maybe the sting will leave my very soul...but i bet there still wont be kung fu rick or despise you.
Have already been to the "RockHard Festival" (with Napalm Death, Testament, Immortal, Exodus, Amorphis, Paradise Lost, Volbeat and that kind of stuff) and to the "Death Feast Open Air" (small Death/Grind Festival not far away from me with Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Origin, Dying Fetus, Crytopsy, Cock And Ball Torture and so on ...)
Will visit the "WithFullForce" Festival (Ministry, Meshuggah, JaKa, Converge, Entombed, ...) in Eeastern Germany and maybe even once again the Wacken Open Air, but I think that will be the last time then ...
@Joe.Distort Insect Warfare (last official show ever is the word on that, They split up? Didn't know that ...
@offtandiscord: Total agreement on Roadburn & ATP. Best Billings ever.
Not a "festival" festival, in as much as there's no camping, but I'm doing 2 nights of the Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall this week. Tomorrow is the Blade Runner score played by The London Heritage Orchestra and mixed by Massive Attack and Wednesday is Stiff Little Fingers with Mark Stewart and the Maffia and Adrian Sherwood DJing.
Next month I'm going up to a friend's in Norfolk where we will all camp in the garden and make our own music. I'm just working on Redemption Song for the concertina. As my wife is pregnant, we get the guest bedroom this year.
