			<![CDATA[ This is based on a really old idea: back before natural gas was widely available many cities were lit using "water gas" made by reacting coal and steam. <br /><br />Later versions of the process used carbon dioxide rather than coal. Even today, a lot of natural gas is very high in carbon dioxide so its reacted with hydrogen to up its carbon monoxide and methane content.<br /><br />Anyway Sandia Labs is working on a project to take carbon dioxide and superheat it using solar power to produce carbon monoxide which can then be used to make petrol (amongst other things).<br /><br />Only catch is they say they're 20 years away from a commercial product.<br /><br />http://www.energy-daily.com/reports/Sunshine_To_Petrol_Project_Seeks_Fuel_From_Thin_Air_999.html ]]>
