I've been reading Wizard for a long time now. I like it fine, I have no problems with it, but I'm curious to see what other comic-related publications are worth checking into. I know comic feedsites like newsarama and CBR have pretty much the same news that would be in the magazine, and it can be delivered seconds after the news breaks, but I like to read the magazine in my hands. I like the smell of the paper.

(If that last bit sounds a little strange. Please, just disregard it and keep reading).

Comics Foundry looked promising, but I can't seem to get my hands on a copy. I like that Matt Fraction was on the cover of issue #2 (if I recall correctly), and that it wasn't wolverine. I tend to follow creators more than characters, (with a few exceptions, like Batman), so I think it's cool that a writer, rather than a drawing would appear on the cover of the magazine. I mean, how many times has wolverine been on the cover of Wizard? I think that if I were to count the number of his appearances, it would probably be about a billion. (I may have rounded up a little).

So, tell me, people of Whitechapel, what comic book publications are worth my time and money?

comics foundry is awesome, cbg is alright (they skew waaaaaay older than my demographic. articles on kids comics from the 40s and 50s? ugh.)

this seems like a pretty common statement from folks i talk to: wizard is just a waste of money anymore. and thats with me being much more forgiving than most- i actually really liked the stupid humor and style of them until this past year- now i cant even spend the money on it.

Comics Foundry should be stocked at most Borders books and is fantastic.

Comic Foundry's first two issues are available for purchase through the site, and shipping is free in the US-

    http://comicfoundry.com/

Issue 3 should be available end of this month or early next month.

(Full disclosure - I've contributed some content to the magazine, so I may not be the most objective voice on the subject)

Comics Foundry, to make it a landslide. It's not infested with that Comics Journal snobbery and you're absolutely right, it's more about the creators than "What's going to happen in the NEXT ISSUE OF WOLVERINE?!?!"

Also, it's free of the horrid stink of misogyny that has wafted from Wizard since the dawn of ever. Definitely worth your dollar.

I'm almost tempted to say "none".

Yeah, I agree with the above. Throwing Newsarama and CBR into my Google Reader feeds makes keeping up with comics as easy as keeping up with politics. And I just skip over the articles that I'm not interested in. Best of all, it's free.
