It was pretty bitchin'. I can't say it was as epic as seeing John Hours address the White House Press Corps, but I'll certainly be around for Issue #1.
Saw it, read it, am really looking forward to it. I like the references to the Levellers and the Diggers, and I'm really hoping to see if there are more connections to be played out. I like the ideas being bounced around. Strong start, and looking forward to see what's next.
Read it and am already a tingle for more. I particularly enjoyed the abridged evolution we saw of the group and the hints at repercussions of choosing to be one of the superheroes. Snakes, snakes...SNAKES!
Seriously, nice prologue. I'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes. I also like how becoming a super hero requires a scary level of short-sighted obsession.
Looks to be good. I think this would make a killer movie thus far. I noticed that the last date was 2011, is it going to end on 2012 with the reference to the Mayan calender stuff.
Ruff sketch of a book I'm working. With a reference to the catal hyuk deity. Which I made a mushroom hermaphrodite bee being.
picked it up today. definitely has that ellis sense of mystery and intrigue to it - that great energy. you know, those sort of electrical under-currents. what i want to know is - how many different series are you working on right now warren? i can't keep up. and i thought i had a lot on my plate...yeesh.
There is something about seeing a superhuman being infernokrushed into (presumably) dust particles that says "So, asshole, are you going to buy #1 now? Or do I have to get nasty?"
Add to that eminently eloquent request the additional arguments of an enticing storyline, interesting premise, as well as the appropriate and gratifyingly excellent art accompanying it, and I think I'll be in the majority camp saying "Please don't rip my face off, Mr Gas Mask Man, I'll get it, okay? See? I'm getting out my wallet now...".
I am truly interested to see what focus the series takes, and what characters the story/ies are told through. It promises to be an interesting journey. I look forward to it.
Benedictions.
...off-topic, the urge to buy a gas mask grows stronger as the years go on. Damn you Ellis, Damn you Gaiman, Damn you Dr Who, Damn you Steampunk, and Damn all post-apocalyptic wastelands. I will not succumb to your siren song of awesome, freaky fashion!
Just read it outside a pub, with a pint and a side order of sunshine. What a bloody great afternoon it was. I get so excited about these Ellis/RyP projects, I'm totally on board for the rest. Loved how brutal it was to see the mutilated Judex still alive. "There's no fucking blood in him, how can he still be alive, no fucking way man..." Thank you avatar for not being afraid to feed me this subhuman grot which I so adore.
Got it and read it yesterday. The main reason I went for it is the premise, I have to admit. The political implications of having superhuman powers have been insufficiently explored, as have been the personal reasons for someone to choose to become superhuman. For a character to choose to carry such a burden rather than have it thrust upon him/her because of an accident makes all the difference.
Enough information and hints to get us hooked and in eight pages no less! Good stuff.
I read and enjoyed it. The level of detail Ryp puts in is amazing. It can be both beautiful and disturbing.
Then there's the way Masterson is described as "One part Lex Luthor to one part Timothy Leary." Piqued my interest. Of course, you know when you see someone wearing an all white suit, that's bad news.
It's hard to know what to think when ryp draws everyone with a sinister expression. kind of makes it hard to take a character at face value.
it took me awhile to 'get' what warren is doing with this, at least here at the start, but I won't spoil it this early. you'll figure it out if you read his iron man, and/or some terrence mckenna.
Of course it was good, and I read it and enjoyed it, but seriously...
Desolation Jones, Doktor Sleepless, No Hero-- Too similar for me. I think Desolation Jones is thus far your finest work, sir, or my favorite anyway, and the similarities between that and this are just very striking to me. Throw in some more socio-political type stuff empowering the individual and we have Transmet. Maybe it's a great thing that these all exist, because they are of course nuanced in certain ways, different things going on, different messages; I just hope Desolation Jones continues and isn't being replaced by these (IMO lesser) books.
And all the FX7 stuff feels to me like it belongs in a Captain America book, or from that X-Files episode Sleepless, where they breed the super soldiers and one effect is they don't require sleep, and they have total Saint of Killers mentality about everything and life is so hard, and they're suchvictims yadda yadda.
Anyway, I consider myself a loyal Ellis fan at this point, and I know all these projects are going to be (and are) great, but don't think I'm going to go out and buy EVERYTHING you write like this.
Long story short: Wah, wah, when do I get Desolation Jones 9?
