    This could be great, unless it's not. I'm all for companies finding new ways to bring media into hands that it otherwise would not reach. While a good deal of my favorite creators started off in 2000AD, I've never read an issue. Somewhere between the irregularity of it's arrival at comic shops and the fact that my introduction to Judge Dredd was, in fact, that shit movie, I haven't had that great of a motive to pick it up. Given the option of a nicely priced digital download, I might try it out.

    Unless they bury it in shitty, proprietary software. Then I won't. I know there's been a good deal of discussion on-line recently about the future of digital comics, and what it all means, and I don't think I have much to add to the discussion that hasn't been said. However, I'm not going to invest in software and media that goes out of it's way to limit my ability to access it. Not when I can find any issue of 2000AD I might be interested in for free, somewhere on the internet, in friendly .jpgs, within seconds. I believe in giving people what they're due, but flash readers and "rental downloads" are not something anyone is getting money out of me for.

    That being said, I'm not that familiar with what clickwheel.net's schtick is.

    I'm going to check it out, i think. I am not familiar with Judge Dredd (any more than that dissappointing Cure song on the movie's soundtrack) or any other 200AD content.

    Clickwheel.net looks very interesting. I've been wondering how to get comics on my ipod. I had heard of "applications" out there that are really just photo albums that you scroll through - i saw a tip calculator and a color wheel, i think. Seems logical to use comic frames in a similar manner. Also, it's completely possible for anyone to do. Cheers to clickwheel for providing a forum for it.

    Warren, do you recommend any of the content up there for starters?

    I'm curious, how often do you guys buy downloads off the internet? I have no ipod, no music phone, no digital book or other such device, so I practically never download things. Is it reasonable to assume that there is earning potential in this, or is it really just a way to get the book out there to more people who hopefully will start buying print copies one day?

    Wow. That's really bloody interesting.

    I note in the FAQ section, it clearly says:

    Can I charge for my comics?
    Currently, no. We recommend you use your Clickwheel comics to help promote and build buzz on your work that you CAN monetize. Think of it like an mp3 that gets you to buy the whole album, or a free webcomic that offers incentive to buy related merchandise or makes for valuable ad space you can sell yourself within your download.


    Can anyone confirm whether this will continue for Tooth?

    There is something about having comics in your hand, isn't there? The new comic smell will apparently be cast into the dim and distant past. Thats a sad thought.

    What will happen to all those avid collectors, as well?

    'Considerably Cheaper' might mean free.

    They've got a good back catalogue of well-branded collections in print nowadays. I wonder if this is going to be a loss-leader. Or possibly, with the increased eyes-on-ads that upping the circulation this way will ensure, they're going to be able to make the costs through ads alone.

    Very interesting and looks like a brave move.

    I agree that there is something to having comics in your hand and smelling the ink - i'm a print junkie. But ...
    do i have to get all Lorax and speak for the trees?

    If you can make money online as a creative in other media using other peoples devices to display your stuff, couldn't comics be the same? The only example i know of if Tunecore.net. You pay them a one time "distribution" fee and upload your album to be sold internationally to anyone who knows that it's there. Comics and other print media could use a similar model... if an when the digital storefronts are available.

    {avid collectors can now have it ALL! muahahaha!}

    This is a great idea, if the pricing is decent I'll sign up. I'm not married to paper, all comics are to me is information and I can absorb that just as easily in a digital format.

    Could be interesting. I've got about about 11 years worth stored here and at my parents house, If it wasn't too expensive it would be nice to be able to find old story arcs at the click of a button. As the gaps between them are criminal sometimes. That said it all depends on the price. Like Oddcult said there are quite a few trades knocking about.

    There's no reason why it shouldn't be cheaper than the print version. No trees, trucks or shops involved with the digital version, and that's where half of the retail recommended price goes.

    People should actually read the article before posting here. It answers questions like "what will happen to all those avid collectors."

    I've been reading 2000 AD for over 25 years. Upon moving to the Great Satan I talked my local comics store into stocking it and so have continued to read it even after moving from the colonies. While I'm not about to give up my hardcopy subscription I may pick up a digital subscription as well. Mainly so I may read it at work while appearing "busy."

    I would rather pay a reasonable amount to a creator for nonDRM stuff but I still LOVE the feeling of paper.
    I think I would buy more and different stuff. It would also be great for the instant gratification side of things.
    Imagine being able to get that Gravel TPB RIGHT NOW!!!?

    I would love to check out some of my favourite authors first work on 2000 AD.

    Being able to fill some holes in my collection would be awesome.
