First, a random querey to those of you here on Whitechapel: Anyone on here a member of the SFRA? The
is a [quite] small organization devoted to SF criticism, scholarship as well as the teaching of SF. Their annual conference is is Lawrence Kansas this weekend, I'm heading there and figured I'd see if anyone else on Whitechapel happened to be headed there. I figure it's a shot in the dark but I think I found the SFRA from following someone who read Extrapolation on here I think.
I'm excited to spend a weekend sitting in a hotel listening to people give papers on SF and the like.
's [PDF warning] the program if you're curious.
Anyone on here do research on comics or SF generally?
If you do study comics do you do it with a background in Literature or in the Fine Arts? I've got to go reread that back matter in Doktor Sleepless #7...

I wrote a paper on Transmet and a HST's Gonzo asthetic last year, and I did it with a background in Literature (American, specifically).
If you want to see some other comics crit (academic, mostly), check out
as well as
The Sandman Papers
(an anthology of LitCrit re: sandman and sandman-related things).
