I find it interesting that he has taken the tack that he has. In some ways his attitudes mirror some of the Magicians I know, and not always in a good way.
I think he's incredibly talented and I would love to pick his brain about Occult matters. He just seems very.. not social. -

I have to stick up for Alan here, I met him at GOSH comics few months back to sign Lost Girls and Black Dossier. There were about 2-300 people queueing round the block, and he patiently and politely spoke to each person, let them take pics etc. never seeming rushed or uncomfortable. My impression of him was of a very humble and friendly guy. Moore knows the Score.

He's very social. What you're picking up on is that Alan... just doesn't care what you think of him. -

Alan Moore always seems so affable and friendly in interviews, yet the only news you ever hear about him is always of the "Oh, what a dick" variety. I just wish more of that sense of fun would show up in his writing.

Seconded! I was also there. In fact, he has always been like that whenever I have met him at a signing. He is very self effacing and has time for everyone, with a special sparkle in his eye. -
Oh, I challenge you not to giggle when you read Tom Strong. He always struck me as a very smart man with a great sense of humor and a deep interest in the world and his craft.

Yes, he came across as an absolute gent as GOSH. Even when my girlfriend and I forgot how to talk when he signed our books.

Alan Moore is a man with opinions and he's not afraid to expose them. I admire that immensely. He's also been nice in every interview I've read of him. While I loved the V for Vendetta film, I completely understand him not wanting anything to do with comic adaptations anymore. They turned two of his greatest works into utter pieces of shit. If he's not interested, he can hardly be blamed.
So one thing I disagreed:
MOORE: (...) but I didn't particularly like the book 300. I had a lot of problems with it, and everything I heard or saw about the film tended to increase [those problems] rather than reduce them: [that] it was racist, it was homophobic, and above all it was sublimely stupid.
Well, the movie isn't racist - the comic is. Zack Snyder had to adapt that, and he did it very well. I mean, the Xerxes in the comic was one of the most ridiculous portrayals of a hystorical figure I've ever seen. Snyder also gave Queen Gorgo a much more important role than in the comic, therefore kicking away another problem the comic had: too "macho". And yes, the comic IS sublimely stupid. But the movie, fortunately, is not.
UPDATE: But let's be fair: Miller also wrote "Give Me Liberty", featuring a black woman as protagonist. So I wouldn't call him racist or mysogynist until he gives further proof. -

I too forgot how to speak at the signing. While signing my copy of V for Vendetta TPB, I told Alan how I had seen his spoken word performance at the R.A.W tribute at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He proceeded to tell me an anecdote about him and Bill Drummond, while I entered a semi-concious mindstate brought about by my brain failing to accept itself conversing with the legendary man and could only respond by saying 'that sounds amazing.'
More proof of his magical powers? -
We can only hope he never uses these Svengali-like powers to build a harem.

So there's a new Alan Moore movie adaptation out, so we get another round of interviews where the old tart tells every publication from the New York Times to L'Equipe to Take a Break that he wants to be left alone in Northampton and hates publicity. I believe him. Completely. -

I always find Moore pretty funny, particular his later works. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is chock full of all kinds of humor. And he's nice in all the interviews I've heard or read.
Obviously when asked about DC comics and other things he hasn't had good luck with, he tends to not have a bunch of cheery things to say. But otherwise, he seems neat.
I think I would enjoy being in his company. -
