Phew. I was beginning to think WonderCon was some local code/joke I wasn't in on.
Anything else you're looking forward to? Have you attended this con before? I haven't, and I'm still on the fence. I could use the time away from work, but at the same time- gotta work.
i haven't been to wondercon before, although i did attend APE '07. basically i'm looking forward to checking out a larger convention. word has it that this one's a step up in hyperfandomnerdiness, so i guess it'll be, um...an interesting social experience, in the anthropological sense of the term.
the brian wood/becky cloonan q&a and the vertigo discussion both look promising.
I just got offered a gig to cover the convention Fri - Sun, but I'm not sure if I can scramble fast enough to get a room, press pass, and...well, a budget. I don't even own a laptop.
I went to my first con last year so I was pretty keen on attending another as soon as possible, but San Fran is a haul for me, so I'll wait for SDCC again.
I'm going Fri and Sat. Gonna try to fill out some more of the gaps in my Valiant back issues, hit a couple of panels, maybe get some sketches.
I just wish Marvel would change their minds and come. That's the only lame thing about Wondercon...actually, I guess it's a lame thing about Marvel rather than about the con...
Wish i could go. Brain Wood's being too modest to post that he's selling some kick-ass promo card packs. great designs. here's his post with links to pix.
if anyone has a chance to tape any of the talks (Wood/Cloonan in particular) you tube that shizzle. i'd totally watch it. full screen.
WonderCon should be interesting. I'm looking forward to meeting Eric Powell and Mike Mignola (again), as well as some others. Sergio Aragones is always a fun guy to talk to.
Marvel rarely attends any Cons outside of NYCC and SDCC. Even at SDCC, last year was the first in a while where they had any major presence, and even then it was mostly movies and whatnot.
Corey "Rey" Lewis is going to be there according to his LJ. A west coast friend of mine caught him at a c-attle con and now I have the lone copy of Sharknife with a huge floffy donkey dick in existence.
I'll be there with some friends, mostly to meet Brian Wood and Ben Templesmith. I'de say look for the big bald guy in the kilt, but it's San Francisco so that probably won't narrow it down. If you see me, feel free to say hello.
I've been the last few years (including taking Lord Phallus of Goblin Cock who'd just released their debut "Bagged and Boarded" a couple of years ago) and I really enjoy it. I don't think I made it to a single panel last year, just went shopping. Left with a stash of Silver Age horror comics, among other things.
I'm going on Friday for sure. Taking the day off. I'm really excited about the Darwyn Cooke panel. I really enjoy his work.
I had a great time at the Con. I spent way too much money, but I got to talk to Mike Mignola, Terry Moore and Steve Purcell. I missed Becky Cloonan, Sergio Aragones and Tim Sale. I did catch Tim Sale's panel though, and he said he wants to do a creator-owned work sometime in the future. I would totally read that.
