That is so cool. And it is an amazing game. The absolute pinnacle of PC graphics right now. I'm sure if you are a regular Kotaku reader you've probably seen this.

We know Crysis is all about the high end, pushing the PC platform to its max. But I had no idea it went this far. PC Games Hardware magazine created a beefy system with NVIDIA's latest and greatest video card...err...video cards. Their brand new Triple SLI, a combination of three NVIDIA geforce 8800s, should make short work of any PC game on the planet. But it couldn't crush Crysis. Running on "very high" settings, the system reached a respectable (but far from mind-blowing) 37.9 FPS. In the words of a Gizmodo staffer, "I don't know how these fuckers developed it." In the words of this Kotaku staffer, "If you can't see a game's graphics on one of the world's most powerful consumer setups, they don't actually exist yet."

I am running an 8600gts with 2 gigs of RAM nowhere near peak graphics and the thing is stunning to look at. Between this, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Halflife 2 episodes and Medal of Honor:Airborne the PC has some amazing high end FPS gaming right now.

As another (non-64bit) AMD 3000 user, its hit or miss the games I can play, even with a 256MB video card. The card can make things pretty enough, but the CPU becomes a bottleneck on a lot of the fancy stuff that they're starting to implement, anything more than a year or so old should be reasonably playable, but you won't get all the eye candy, and some things newer than that may be just fine as well. For the record though, I'm just starting to put cash away for one last overhaul/finally taking the Apple plunge, and the PS3/360 is looking like a legitimate upgrade alternative as well.

Also, that Crysis video is awesome, but it isn't real-time stuff, rendered setups :(
Yeah I agree with you there. The gameplay and world building in FPS has advanced quite a ways but I think the story element is still lagging even in those games touted as having strong stories like Halflife 2, Bioshock, F.E.A.R. and a handful of others. Good story usually just translates as an FMV of why we need to shoot the next section of bad guys to death. Generally the ones I find most successful are the ones that forgo plot with scripted in-game events like the Call of Duty series. The plot is the usual kill-some-fucking-Nazis/Terrorists but when a fighter plane crashes into your trench during combat without a cut scene it can give you chills. Now they just need to open the sand box a little. I wish Crysis had been more of a basic future war sim without the alien angle, more like GRAW, but the go anywhere, do it your way gameplay is really top notch.
