New week's releases are up at http://www.piccadillyrecords.com - just choose a genre from left and click "magic mix" to stream excerpts from the new releases.
I must admit, most of the week I was listening to the last three tracks on Titus Andronicus' AIRING OF GRIEVANCES pretty obsessively. Now, I'm listening through a gig of mailed-in songs for the new season of The 4am.
King Khan & The Shrines - The Supreme Genius Of... Unrest - Imperial F.F.R.R. Beck - Modern Guilt Kings Of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak The Hold Steady - Stay Positive The same Rush and Van Halen mixes I've been listening to for weeks.
I just put the Pandora app on my iPhone. It's sort of a LastFM-ish thing. Type in an artist or song and it will start playing shit for you. So far it's pretty damn good. Bouncing back and forth between streams created by typing Ryan Adams and Motorhead.
that pandora thing is pretty cool, i assumed it would be useless for me but was shocked when RISTTETYT and CRUCIAL UNIT came up.
some selections from the weekend: TRAPPED IN A SCENE comp lp (grindviolence and blastbeats=yes) HOT CROSS- risk revival lp (still sad they are gone...) FIGHT CLUB 12" (would be worth it just for the knifehandchop song alone...breakcore) ATARI TEENAGE RIOT/ ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION split 7" SHIZUO- sweat 7" HATRED SURGE/ ENDLESS BLOCKADE split lp ( HS- blindingly fast grindviolence, EB- so sludgy it hurts)
The Dresden Dolls - entire discography The Mountain Goats - ditto Iron & Wine's Woman King EP 9 LP set of 'hits of the 50s and 60s' which was a staple of my childhood. My mother brought it down for me recently and accidentally left it on a train. Thankfully, two weeks later, someone handed it into Lost Property at Marylebone, so I hauled arse over there (note for the future: lost property doesn't open until noon!) and picked it up.
Some new stuff:
The World Inferno/Friendship Society's Red Eyed Soul which my flatmate picked up at their London gig on Friday. I had tickets but had to go to a work shindig instead, woe. But it's really awesome and I'll def. have to catch 'em next time.
- London Zoo - The Bug (excelent release) - Pale Sketches - Jesu - Beautiful Future - Primal Scream (it's not so good as "XTRMNTR", but still enjoyable)
Stuff that's made it's way into my ears recently? Listening to Botch's 'We are the Romans' as I type.
Genghin Tron - Board up the House Tom Waits - Orphans Dave Brubeck - Take Five A smattering of Chris Connelly from the Shipwreck album more Meshuggah than is probably healthy
@warren - Woman King is a six song EP, pretty much all the songs revolve around female characters and they mostly all have some sort of biblical/spiritual connection/undertone. Lilith and Jezebel have their own songs (Evening on the Ground [Lilith's Song] and Jezebel respectively) and I'm particularly fond of the title track. It's probably, of all Sam Beam's output, my favourite.
There's a pretty good live version of Jezebel up on Last.fm. Failing that, I can bung some sample mp3s over to your gmail.
The World/Inferno Friendship Society - i love all of their stuff, if you like Dresden Dolls i highly suggest checking them out. Actually the Dresden Dolls' drummer is currently the WIFS drummer too.
Jonathan Coulton - mostly listenin to his song Still Alive again and again
The Gun Club - just have some songs of theirs i got off iTunes, my favorites are The Lie and Like Calling Up Thunder
I have been waking up to Burial (U Hurt Me is actually great to hear first thing in the morning). That aside, I've been overdoing the dub reggae. Lots of Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, and Horace Andy.
Current obsessions: Califone - Spider's House Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Perpetuum Mobile DJ Krush - Final Home (Piano Mix) Camera Obscura - If Looks Could Kill
